If we are going to play a rent-a-win we might as well sell as many tickets as possible and LR has shown that is asking too much
Just one question about this from another article in the paper you misquoted earlier.
It says that by playing in LR we only pay ULM 500,000 vs stAte receiving 950,000 for playing at Oregon. With us allowing them to count the attendance we get a home game for 400,000 less.
I do understand the concession, parking, etc etc. But if the university is fine with the arrangement, why are you so butthurt?

This is stupid. It isn't the University of Northwest Arkansas.
LSU seems to pull state support from the entire state. Are they Southeast Louisiana State University because they don't play in Shreveport?

Fan support across the state
Has fan support waned in Louisiana for LSU since they stopped playing in Shreveport? Or Bama since they quit playing in Birmingham?

Based on...? That a bunch of poor people in south Arkansas will start hating the Razorbacks? If the only reason someone likes UA is because we play in WMS twice a year they aren't huge fans anyway.

They aren't fine with it, they are clearly trying to slowly cut LR out of the equation. See: moving LSU game to where it belongs.
Also using your logic: if UA does cut ties with LR, will you be fine with it since "the university is fine with it"?

I just can't understand why the U of A wants to play ANY games in Little Rock.
Posted on 9/6/12 at 3:05 pm to Porker Face
i can't afford to drive from fayetteville to little rock, so i will not be attending and i'm scared of the locals.

Since we all know that fans from NWA are responsible for filling RRS, where will they be this week?
In the stands
Now where will the bitchy delta fans who are too poor to drive to Fayetteville be? Surely they take their only opportunity ever to watch the Hogs... Oh wait, that's the point of this thread! They haven't!

The point is the hardship the university goes through, bussing a team and a full band, spirit squads, etc all the way down there, and LR can't even sell out the games anymore.
Its pretty pathetic, IMO.
The skyboxes will be full, and those are the people who have thrown their weight around keeping games down there.
There are a lot fewer people living east and south of Little Rock than there were 20 years ago. That area continues to lose population while the western and northern parts of the state continue to grow.
Many are predicting NWA is about to enter its second boom as companies unrelated to Wal-Mart put up offices to take advantage of the retail and manufacturing supplier/vendor community being represented here like no other place on the planet.
If that happens, the balance will shift even further.

Aren't you from Pine Bluff? No one from PB should be afraid of the LR locals...

This is really simple. The U of A gets exposure in Little Rock every time they play a game here. Taking these games away takes away that exposure.
Players love playing in front of their friends and family. Cobi Hamilton likes playing in LR way more than in Fayetteville.
The only razorback games Ryan Mallett went to growing up were in LR.
The whole dynamic of fan support (including in-state recruiting) in Arkansas would change if the games in LR are ended. Saying that stopping the games in LR would only benefit the U of A is a selfish and short sighted viewpoint.
The U of A has state support, and they should do their part to support the state back. This isn't a take and take relationship.

Yes. But I am not a season ticket holder/donor but have been to 2 or 3 games the last 4 years. Have not been to a LR game in prob 3 years. So I realize I am part of the reason LR does not sell out.
But I also understand the reason why the game is there.

How many serious contributors on this team are from the LR area?

Altee Tenpenny still thinks it isn't enough exposure. He could play in his hometown twice a year if he signs with us. But where is he going...hmm.
WMS doesn't seem to actually help pull in any big-name LR talent.

Tenpenny is from Dog Town and did not like Petrino. He will flip...

So much has changed. Southeast Arkansas just isn't a big contributor to the state popluation-wise, whereas it used to be a major population area.
Population in 1980:
Pine Bluff (SE Ark): 56,000
The tiny towns of NWA:
Fayetteville: 36,000
Springdale: 23,000
Rogers: 17,000
Bentonville: 8,700
Fast forward to 2010:
Pine Bluff: 49,000 (and dropping)
Fayetteville: 75,000
Springdale: 70,000
Rogers: 56,000
Bentonville: 35,000
Bella Vista: 27,000 (not really much in 1980)
Centerton: 10,000 (didn't exist in 1980)
Lowell: 7,000 (didn't really exist in 1980)
Its only going to continue.

If there are "fans" of the hogs that would no longer support them if they quit playing in Little Rock they aren't real fans and I would rather those bitches DIAF than go around "supporting" my team. fricking crybaby losers pony up the cash to drive to Fayettevile or just STFU and watch that shite on TV.

What would Obama know about fans from NWA not wanting to travel?

You're missing the point. No fan is going to stop supporting the team if LR games are stopped anytime soon. It's going to take 5-10 years for the lack of exposure to really take effect. It's on a social level where poorer and often stronger kids aren't going to be able to go to any razorback games.
Kids growing up in central and southern Arkansas that would make going to a razorback game a tradition aren't going to be able to make this a part of their lives.
