Georgia is probably a year away,

I'm not so sure about that actually. Our offense should be excellent in 18 but we just lose SO MUCH on defense after this year.

In 17 we return 10 starters so our defense should be very very good. Eason will be another year better and our OL will be improved even if only slightly.

I dont' see any reason we shouldn't expect to win the east this year. Granted, we won't win the SEC because we're nowhere near bama but you can't say anyone in the east in 2017 is head and shoulders better than us.

I agree, I think Georgia is the clear favorite in the East. However, like Tennessee last year, that is based on the assumption some things naturally improve from last year (they didn't for Tennessee). Eason, OL, WR play.

You keep saying that and in fact everyone does but next year's team will actually be more talented on paper than this year's was. And since we're talking talent and draft picks... UGA is 0-2 against a team that had 0 draft picks for two years straight.

Even our disappointing class this recruiting cycle is still a good class nationally and one a good 10 spots or more higher than the outgoing class that everyone claimed was incredibly talented. This cycle's class is also one that focused a great deal on the trenches and needs (we got quite a haul in linemen). That said, one class won't make or break anyone.

Yes, we lose a handful of players but the only two that will be difficult to replace are Barnett and Dobbs. Neither JRM nor Sutton played enough last season to matter and we're good at RB despite losing Kamara and return plenty on both O and D along with our K, P, and a healthy All-American kick returner. But I'd also add that while everyone gave Eason love for being the bestest ever before he took a snap, everyone is ignoring JG who was rated the #1 DT QB in that same class and the fact that Dobbs was an unheralded recruit.

Our biggest obstacle remains a shitty schedule compared to UF and UGA. We play Bama and LSU next season.

Not really. Every year Saban's at Bama we get an auto-loss in-conference and have consistently drawn tougher West opponents. You and UGA have OOC rivals which means you can drop those games and it doesn't matter.

Do I? I barely ever talk about tennessee, but I would say that UT shouldn't expect to be as good in 2017 as they are in 2016. Do you disagree? That's the literal definition of a dropoff, I never said yall are going 4-8.

what has what, exactly, to do with 2017?

Eason played his entire freshman season and has a full year under his belt. JG doesn't.

I again want to stress I haven't said a single thing about what your record will be next year. I just don't believe you will be as good of a football team as this year, which isn't some crazy notion.

Wow, one line in a thread not even about you and we get the whole resume huh?

What's got you in a rustled mood?

I think it's debatable tbh unless you're talking about UT versus UF in the second half. We were too inconsistent and injured to be anything remotely good. After TAMU we were the walking wounded. Against BAMA the entire offense was made up of backups minus Dobbs and the WRs. We had 21 different starters on defense alone due to injury, DEs playing DT, and set records for bad so yeah even with losing Barnett I actually expect defense to be worlds better than finishing near the bottom of the 128 NCAA D1 teams.

I'm also not sure how there can be a dropoff from losing to Vandy and USC.

I want to smack Dave Hart silly for scheduling them, especially at the beginning of the year. fricking chop blocks and nothing to gain to from beating them.

y'all will be fine. The problem with them is often times teams only have 6 days to prepare for that mickey mouse offense. Look at their bowl record under PJ when teams have a month to prepare, it's not so great.

With UT having the entire offseason to prepare yall should be alright.

I'm honestly mostly worried about injuries. After losing every single one of our DTs last season to injury (plus Danny O. to recreational drugs) I really don't want them injured in the first game of the year from chop blocks.

You will have at least 1 DL go out for the game in that one, that's almost assured.

I remember him missing a lot of blocks but I don't remember a lot of penalties. He was definitely never subpoenaed for grand jury testimony regarding a murder he witnessed by his teammate.
