We cannot begin the search for a new coach until we fire and replace our AD. No one is coming to Ole Miss with Pete Boone still there.

That is very true. And with that bastard's ego, he will stay around for another few years. Just to spite us all.

It's pretty ridiculous to be in the middle of a $150 million athletics capital raise, and have your donor base so upset with the AD. They simply will not reach their goal in the current political environment.

The only combination right now that would unite the fan/donor/alumni base is Archie Manning as AD and Haley Barbour as Chancellor of the University. With that, anything is possible.

If Boone was to be released, the remaining of that $150mil would be raised within a couple months. There is no doubt in that.

So out of curiosity, since you're kidding and all, when was the last time Arkansas WON back to back traditional New Year's Day games? (Which is what Nutt actually said, although it had probably been about that long since they had been to back to back as well.)

Is Archie Manning a legit possibility or just a pipe dream? He would be a good choice if he wants the job. Not that I want Ole Miss to do anything right

The "commentary" re: Nutt's quote emanates more from the context in which Nutt made the statement, not the statement per se.

ETA: FWIW, Arkansas went to back to back "New Year's Day" bowl games in Jan.-'07 and Jan.-'08. But we don't win bowl games.

He is considering it. The terms being discussed are for an "interim" basis of 2-3 years, to get through the $150 million campaign and to help find a new coach and a permanent AD.

The problem is that Archie and Boone are friends. They played at OM together (I believe Boone is one class below Archie). So Archie won't do it unless Boone can somehow bow out gracefully. Its a tough call.

I've heard a legit candidate for the AD job would be Brad Teague. Wouldn't be a bad hire at AD.

I'm not very excited about the idea of Archie being our AD. I'm fine with him doing some things that would involve a face presented but I have no idea what he knows about running an AD other than what he's watched with Boone being here.

If he's been at some small school as an AD for 5-6 years and has done a good job, then sure.

Did y'all see the thread on NAFOOM with a rumor that Pete Boone has resigned?

again? Man. he's resigned 6 times in the past 7 weeks. Crazy stuff.

btw....this is one of those things where someone is going to start a rumor every week until it happens hoping to scoop it and gain some intra-net cred. If/when Boone resigns, there will be an immediate presser and we'd know about it a good 3-4 hours in advance because of members of the media would be tweeting about a random, unscheduled presser.

Eli needs to go ahead and start pumping out boys from his wife. It's the ultimate WAOM moment that he's having a girl.
