They say, the backup QB is the most favorite player on any team. We have reached this point.
He is 6'4 , 240 lbs
This is from May 2025.

During the Georgia game after one of Mateer's boneheaded turnovers, the camera focused on Mateer and Arbuckle talking. Neubauer was sitting like 3 feet away and not even listening in on the convo. I thought it was strange, like don't most QB coaches or OCs include the entire QB room in those situational discussions? Or at least include the backup QB?

I would guess that Arbuckle was ripping into Mateer, politely or not, and Newbauer did not think it would be a good idea to be a witness to it.

Its obvious inserting Whitt would make Arbuckle look like a fool. He would make mistakes but not like John. And can read the field. Is tall enough to see over line. Is big like Belldozer if need to run. Has a great pocket form and throw.

Whitt stayed this off season. Its obvious he’s getting some decent NIL. And he’s been loyal and patient in his time here. Could be a hidden gem if only we try him out in games vs tough opponents like GA. Its asinine he got no reps. Just to have 2 series woulda been good for him.
When we got him spring 2025:
Josh Callaway
@JoshMCallaway
Oklahoma is expected to add Mercer QB Whitt Newbauer
1,398 yards and 12 TD’s with 4 INT’s last season as a true freshman
Sooners wanted some depth in the room after losing Cole Gonzales - they get it here with Newbauer

Our competition is so much better. But so os our team surrounding him. He put up great stats against Bama and that was with Mercer. 11 of 13 passing with 1 TD and 1 INT.

Quite a few are saying this. My biggest beef is not giving Whitt a few series vs GA. Then you could have an option of Whitt vs tx. But not now, no way you can start a new QB vs tx in RRS. Thats the coaching malpractice of GA game/decisions.

I’d rather watch Newbauer give up turnovers than John all things being equal. Not that he would but I can’t stomach watching Mateer do it any longer

This OU admin simply does not care enough about football. They want OU to be the Mayberry of the SEC. Good ol’ folk lookin out for each other! Record be damned!!

Why we aren't playing this guy is a mystery. We're either stupid, bonehead stubborn or there's something we don't know. I don't think it's the latter.

I don't think this is correct. I think the OU admin want a clean program with good culture and with people like BV that have the highest level of integrity. I think that they value being proud of the culture and the kind of people that we hire and recruit. BV is a great example of that.
Second, I think that they want OU football to be as good as it can be, and like a lot of us, acknowledge that BV has built the culture overall, built great defense and special teams. It he could solve the offense, that would be pretty perfect.
Some people would say that all that matters is your record. I don't think I that the OU leaders see it that way. I believe integrity and having a good public profile is more important to them, but that they want to win also. .I actually agree with that. The era that brought Barry down was very embarrassing and put OU in a very bad light, and that had repercussions far outside of football.
