They turn that feature on when there is a big event like this for two reasons. One an influx of lurkers will crash the board and two it makes the look better to their media partners to have more members.

Well I'm pretty sure I'm getting banned from Hogville pretty quickly. I've already been "warned" for insulting other posters a few weeks ago. The stupidity is probably going to be too much for me to take. I have a buddy who is on his 4th account there...
edit...you can pretty much watch it unfold right now if you want. Doubt I'll last the night.
