Most of these big business/influential/political types that moonlight as big boosters are ego-maniac, control freaks with a hightened sense of self-worth. They get off on the feeling of power and influence - whether it's real or imagined makes no differnece.
And i'd take Lattimore and Davis over Dyer any day of the week.

You were saying that you'd be fine if college football became NFL Lite...with players moving around to other schools during the course of their eligibility, buying replacement players, etc.
Actually, we agree. I don't really want it to become NFL Lite. I'm just simply looking at it from the perspective of a rogue booster. These guys just want to see their favorite program do well. Most of them don't care who it is, or whether the player cares about the program he plays for.
I'm not saying I agree with this way of thinking, I'm just saying I can see why these guys do what they do.

No brainer. Powerhouse. If I had the money, I would definitely do it for my university's team. Being a third generation Gamecock, the passion from me is there. The people that do this have more money than they could ever spend, so why not invest it in something you are passionate about? I would rank my passion for SEC (Gamecock football) at the top of my list. At 25, I don't have a family or anything, so I may have a skewed view, but I still think I will be passionate at 40, 50, and even 60 years old.
This is exactly why Auburn is in the situation they are in now. They apparently have a group of guys, however large or small, who are willing to pay whatever it takes to have a winning program and have winning players.
I don't agree with it at all, but I think I understand where they're coming from.

People are idiots with no life, just look at the typical Bama fan's post two below yours that started this thread. Tons of people like the late Logan Young out there who have gotten easy money and feel crappy about their miserable lives so they live vicariously through college sports to an unhealthy extent.

Clearly you've never had to write an argumentative essay. You also didn't take the time to read the whole thread. Maybe you should read up before you run your fat sausage fingers.

Morally and ethically, it is very wrong. At the same time, winning is the name of the game. You play sports to win, not have fun, and these boosters got a thrill out of enticing high school stars to come play ball at Auburn so that they could do just that -- win. I disagree with it, but I understand why it was done, and I can't sit here and say I wouldnt ever do it if I had the means to do so.
