Heard a stat that Kentucky has 30 SEC CHAMPIONSHIPS, more than all other SEC teams COMBINED. That's an amazing stat but also speaks to how little resistance they've gotten from the competition

To frame this discussion let's start at Post integration. From that point forward would Kentucky have been as dominant in the ACC or old Big East? Would they have maintained their blue blood status in a conference with more competition and depth?

Also, You can't discount the financial benefits of SEC football even at a basketball school.

Kentucky is a charter member of the SEC.

Even post 1969, Kentucky has faced challengers every decade. Vandy,Alabama and Tennessee in the '70's, LSU,Ala and Tenn in the 1980's ,Florida in the 1990's and 2000's. They've been pushed.

Just because Auburn has always been content with fielding rot gut teams doesn't mean the other schools have.

I wouldn't put any of those schools on the same level as being in a conference with UNC and Duke or the 80's Big East

I think this is a rotten thread. The only think Kentucky did wrong was what a lot of Southern schools did. Rupp did not want to play African-Americans.

It is a terrific road trip and Lexington is beautiful.

Then explain how they were able to beat enough teams OOC despite a "weak" conference schedule to win 8 National Championships?

They'd be just fine.

I have a question about Kentucky.

Beautiful stadium and campus.

Fans that are dying for some football success.

Kentucky borders Ohio, West Virginia, Tennessee, and Indiana. Not too far from Michigan, Missouri or Illinois.

Why has the football not been better? A long time has passed between the Rupp and Bear situation.

It really difficult to be both a football and basketball school.

because the SEC is a highly competitive football conference and Kentucky hasn't fully committed to football like others have (and why would they when they have the bball program they do). Very few schools have the ability to have great basketball and football programs. And sure they may border some good football states, but they're not stealing recruits from blue bloods in the midwest.

It took forever for the AD to commit to football. It's no coincidence that all it's taken for Stoops to get back to a bowl is to dip into Ohio for a few classes either.

And for what it's worth, Kentucky had some very good teams in the late 70s but got caught with their hand in the cookie jar.

Wasn't so tough in Gainesville and Brentwood.

You heard wrong because they have almost 50 SEC titles.

Donovan caught lightening in a bottle with that much talent that came back for a 2nd NC. With the one and done you'll likely not see that again.

Guess I just like the state.

Hard to beat an afternoon game in Lexington and drive to Renfro Valley for the evening show.

This is correct. Kentucky has 47. The next closest is LSU with 11. The rest of the SEC combined has 50, although SEC does have shared SEC titles in basketball.

Football is getting better. UK will be a competitor for the east title this year.

Stoops has the talent now to compete. This is the year.

UK really didn't put much of an emphasis on football till recently. It's starting to come together.

The auto bid from being the regular SEC Champion has helped?

Maybe there was a caveat like since expansion? I heard it at the end of the SEC tourney which has been a couple weeks ago

So this is more in line with what I was trying to say
