It is, but it's not not really related. I'm thrilled that we hired somebody with zero ties to Auburn except him coaching at the same school our former coach did (each for one year).

Yeah you gotta keep it business casual over there. I've had some run-ins on some other boards that shall not be named, so I steer clear of that one.

You right! I see you're still fighting the good fight. I respect that. If I get banned again, I salute you in spirit

It'll be a great trivia question one day
You guys should've hired the Gus protege, Drunktitz himself

Most of those names sounded pretty reasonable to me I don't see any that would so far fetched they wouldn't at least listen to a pitch.
It's not like he had Urban and Stoops on there, or fricking Jeff Fisher again.
If I was going to make up a fictitious list, those would be names I would have to make AU look better than just Steele, which the Cult accused me of doing. I personally wanted Freeze and say frick the SEC Office and Holier than Thou group at AU. But most on that list would have never crossed my mind and thank goodness they didn't get the job. Harsin was a shock, but I like what he has done so far.

The thing is, Auburn has NEVER made a big or splashy hire. Taking Tuberville from Ole Miss was about as big of a splash as you get at Auburn. I am glad that it wasn't a Rhett Lashlee, Will Muschamp, Kodi Burns, Gene Chizik hire again to keep things in the family.
There's a lot less pressure with a guy like Harsin because imagine if we did try to get a Stoops/Meyer type hire (we couldn't anyway), there would be so much immediate pressure and spotlight that it would be almost destined to fail.
I don't think there are many questions about Harsin as an Xs/Os guy, but we all know he will need time to get his name out. I feel good about the veteran staff he's hired as many of them have been successful in and around the SEC.
And just like most of our hires, I don't think there were many people outside the top brass that knew how that search went. That's just the way Auburn operates.
Excellent points all around. Like you said, he'll need some time. I think he'll struggle some this season and a lot of that can pinned on Gus for leaving the cupboard somewhat empty by AU standards. If he has a solid year though, it'll be all to his credit.
Harsin will definitely bring in a real offensive philosophy rather than Gus' smoke and mirrors. Gus' ability to mature his football talent, especially offensively, left a lot to be desired. I can't imagine Harsin being nearly as bad as Gus developmentally. From that aspect, he'll certainly be an upgrade. Gus had some talented players, but they often didn't improve while at AU.

Really more of a Harsin protoge. He worked for Harsin at Arky State AND Boise.
That's the real trivia question there, although some posters here will tell you it means nothing.

Don't be ridiculous. He's just better than you. He's funny, but yet he doesn't laugh at his own drivel like you do.

AU has always gone the cheap route when hiring a coach. Hire an up and coming coach, pay the average rate and then giving him a big raise after he has early success. Then fire him with a big buyout. That really changed when they gave Gus his big contract. It didn't work out but it sent a message to CF AU was willing to pay well for a coach. It opened a lot of doors when an opening occurred.

That's an understatement. Many regressed.
6-4 was a pretty "bleh" season. The fact that Gus chose to celebrate it might've been the final nail in the coffin.
We didn't lose a lot in the way of players from last year. I think the defensive change to 3-4 will work better with our strengths on defense. And offensively, Nix was still a 5* recruit and Tank is Tank. The line did a pretty good run blocking last year. And I don't think it's a stretch to think that Bobo/Harsin will be better offensively than Morris/Gus last year.
That's why I think there's potential to have at least an average season by Auburn standards. Gus's 2020 class was the best he signed in his time at Auburn and they will all be sophomores.
You'd think the new hires (Kiffin/Leach/Pittman) will be better than last year, but all 3 are still a little behind in talent, although that gap is closing with this freshman class.

I think Harsin will prove to be good hire. Certainly not the sexy name but a solid, proven coach.
Similar to the hires both LSU and Aggie made in baseball.

AU and Gus's biggest problem was never talent. He had a S&C Program built around the HUNH and yet he stopped running it. The Offense limited a good passing game and his OL got pushed around because of the S&C compared to the rest of the SEC. The fact that he was 9-4 and 6-4 the last two years alone showed AU had talent but lacked coaching.
