We whiffed on Kelvin Sampson and the Wichita State coach before we hired Muss from Nevada. I'm guessing money had something to do with swinging and missing on Yurachek's first two choices.

Pretty sure the fact that Kelvin wanted his son as a de facto successor had more to do with that. Kelvin makes less than a million more than Musselman right now. A difference of being the 6th highest paid coach in the country or 10th.
This problem is overblown.

That's about it.
Don't sell them short, they're pretty bad on offense too.

I'm pretty sure Yurachek has said he thinks coaching salaries are out of control, but I sincerely hope you're correct.

Previous 4 years "points for" line has a low of 74.1 and high of 81.4. This year: 75.9, 91st in the nation and tied for 2nd best for EM teams.
Vandy averages 66.8 ppg for 307th. Giving up 85 while exceeding the season average ppg with 82 tells the story.

The numbers seem to indicate that the total PPG is inflated based on the non-conference.
Looking at the conference-only offensive PPG, this is the lowest of the Musselman era.
2024 - 70.4
2023 - 72.3
2022 - 74.5
2021 - 80.5
2020 - 75.8
Adjusted offensive efficiency ranking is also lowest of Musselman era.
2024 - 109.5 (121 rank)
2023 - 112.1 (54)
2022 - 109.9 (53)
2021 - 111.1 (43)
2020 - 109.1 (55)
I definitely agree that the slide in defensive performance has been more staggering when looking at total PPG allowed, conference-only PPG allowed, and adjusted defensive efficiency.
I would imagine that the poor defensive performance has also impacted the offensive numbers. Fewer steals means fewer points in transition.

BUt dude, Tourney runs are all that matters. We have rocked the world in the NCAA tourney until this season.
Have went the further than anybody else in the SEC. He has won the right to have a down year. fwiw

Coaching salaries have been out of control for years now. Does HY think he’s breaking news on this? He needs to just shut up and hire top coaches and get football and basketball back to winning.

That's good stuff. The beginning of conference play is also when we fans began to what happened to this team? It's hard to watch a team seem to lose its fight so easily.
I wish I had time to look at player +/- and minutes played per game. But I'll just agree with other fans here and say Brazille lacks gumption, and Devo is a head case.

We suck this year but that doesn’t change the fact that within the first 4 years at Arkansas Muss accomplished more than UT has in their history.
Pearl is the only coach to do something at TN. Besides that it’s a woman’s basketball school
