I've found that the people who flaunt their school rankings are the one's that either don't have jobs or have shitty ones.

No, you're "selective". That's a category below "more selective".

Ah, I see.

Regardless, Ole Miss (and State's) selectivity or lack thereof isn't the fault of the school, as explained previously.

quote:

You are not Tier 1. Miss and Miss St are the only two SEC schools that are not.

False. The tier system was changed this past year, and both Ole Miss and State are in the first tier.

quote:

Your Carnegie ranking is one tier below ours in their ranking system.

Yeah, probably because of your Wal Marks dollars. Congrats. We're still a research university that spends a lot of money on shite.

quote:

Arkansas is a better school than U-Miss in pretty much every category. Like I said, not much to brag on, but its true.

You picked, what, FOUR categories? I can cherrypick to make the argument otherwise.

Ole Miss and Arkansas aren't all that different academically.

I wouldn't say I'm flaunting anything.

I just don't think that the academic opportunities offered by Ole Miss are all that different or worse than those offered by comparable schools in the region. The same goes for Mississippi State.

I think that being in Mississippi, having smaller student bodies, and therefore smaller endowments hurt the schools, but not by all that much.

I didn't "cherry pick" shite.

"Cherry Picking" is picking out one program (like say Pharmacy) and building an argument around that.

"Cherry Picking" is throwing out some awards won by students attending your university as evidence of your school being a good one.

I showed you four big programs that Arkansas is ranked higher at than Ole Miss.

Find me some schools of yours that outrank ours.

And a big endowment is important when growing a university's prestige and appeal. That endowment is why our business school has a great reputation. Its not just money sitting in a vault for a rainy day. It is used to endow professorships and fund research.

Arkansas is a better school than Ole Miss both academically and athletically.

Deal with it.

I graduated from the Walton College. I'm doing well enough that I get my shite done and can sit around fricking off online as much as I can stand.

I also have some of the best seats in the house on game day.

I simply stated that Arkansas is a better school than Ole Miss. Dude questioned. I brought facts.

The rest is just butthurt.

I'm just screwing with you. FWIW, unless you're at UF, Vandy, or UGA talking academic smack is pointless.

ETA: There is a reason I'm going to UF law and not OM.

Thats why I said its nothing to brag about to be better than Ole Miss academically.

Our business school is about 3rd best in the SEC, and that is our best program.

Errrr... yeah, you did just that.

Yeah, but not by much. You don't think that MONEY and public perception of Mississippi has anything to do with that? You know that these rankings are largely determined by professors from other schools and their opinions, right?

Tell me, what is it exactly about Arkansas Law or Medicine that makes it better than that of Ole Miss? Do you think that lawyers and doctors from Arkansas are somehow magically more successful at their jobs than the same from Ole Miss?

Get a fricking grip, dude.

quote:

Find me some schools of yours that outrank ours.

I could, but that'd be cherry picking, and I told you that doing that is dumb.

quote:

And a big endowment is important when growing a university's prestige and appeal.

I understand that entirely. Arkansas is fortunate to have the Walton family and whatnot.

quote:

Arkansas is a better school than Ole Miss both academically and athletically.

Whooooooo track titles!

Let me ask you this: if Arkansas is so wildly superior academically, why does Ole Miss have more that double the Rhodes Scholarships of Arkansas (25 to 10)? There are great students, professors, and opportunities at Ole Miss, and things just keep getting better and better for the school because of better leadership and a government which is finally beginning to become more committed to higher education.

So you can shove your more-or-less negligible rankings up your bacon-grease lined a-hole for all I care.

And this is where you caught flak as a result. There are 3 schools that can brag about superiority on a whole and neither Arky or OM is on that level. Yes, I went to OM for undergrad, but that wasn't due to the academic challenges it presented. It was the simple fact it was close to home. I also got in Arky. Neither would I mark as an accomplishment.

Ditto.

Except, instead of Walton College, I graduated from the Croft Institute, but you get the picture.

U mad?

We're better than you.

Cherry picking is throwing out things like Rhodes Scholars. Show me some of your colleges that are ranked higher than ours. I showed you four. Those were the only four I looked up. Win. Win. Win. Win.

We're also much richer than you, so we will continue to be better than you into perpetuity.

Close to home and financial aid opportunities are why I went to Ole Miss.

I got into Vanderbilt, but didn't wanna pay for it.

I hope one day I get to breath the same air as you.

ETA: This is what I love about State/Ole Miss threads...it goes from talking about State's badass cheeses to how Arkansas' school is better than everybody else.

Same here, the only school that I got rejected from was Stanford. I was borderline and missed the early admission date. I didn't qualify for financial aid, but I did get a full ride academically.

Didn't know you were a Croftie. You seemed so normal.

Also, my whole point is. I don't brag about going to OM. WMR shouldn't brag about going to Arky. They aren't anything special.

Some of us are normal, I swear.

The ones that study Chinese are the strangest, but even some of them are cool kids.
