If they did expand in the early 90's it may have been to add academic as well as athletic schools. lets say Texas A&M
The SEC was open to allowing A&M to join back then, but, like a good little brother, they replied that they couldn't since UTex wouldn't let them.

ETA: You have the guy who poisoned trees so don't talk about shitty fans
Pointing to "one guy" to characterize a group is stupid, and redundant. I was just surprised at how arrogant Georgia fans acted that year, especially for a program that hasn't won a national title more recently than their in-state rival.
Honestly, it's not the sidewalk fans I was talking about. It's every alum from Buckhead to Macon who believed in their heart and soul at General Beauregard's at 12:30 Saturday in 2008 that Georgia was, beyond a shadow of a doubt, going to blow out Alabama. We all know what happens next.
I don't understand the delusion--really from any fan of a team in Georgia.
I grew up in Atlanta. Was/am a big Falcons, Hawks, Thrashers, Braves fan. It's the same song every year--no matter how good they are on paper, or even in the beginning, it's a guarantee a choke it coming. If I were a UGA fan AND a Falcons fan in 2012, I'd have checked myself into therapy.
(Side-note: UGA played an FSU team in the 2002 Sugar Bowl which featured Anquan Boldin --yes, WR, Anquan Boldin-- playing QB for most of the game because FSU had their first 2 QB's suspended for the game)
