I'm talking about when it finally expanded. Shields-Watkins was built by students. It took a ton of work and almost wasn't finished. Later it began to grow.
Yeah, it's definitely cool to see how hard UT's students worked to make it happen. I'm just always amused that our stadium was SO much bigger than yours then. Now, Neyland is like 3.5 times as big as Dudley. Damned change over time!

Just added a lot more to that post you might be interested in perusing. It truly is amazing how things changed but Vandy always whips our arse in baseball so you have that. Dudley is stuck with a city that grew up around it. (UT campus is too but fortunately it doesn't effect that stadium so much). However, back in the day Vandy was badass and had a stadium to match.

I was pointing out that it's funny, painfully funny, how things changed.
Dores were early football powerhouse, just most of their biggest success came before the AP and UPI (now coaches poll) had hit their stride.
Did you know …..
Dores were the football power house in TN
Dores beat up texas so much they quit playing the State Fair and got Oklahoma instead
Dores had a dozen or so of the early conference championships
Cats were the first in the SEC to play football, but Dores were the first to organize it into a conference
