I can't wait to take my wheelchair bound relative to a game. She doesn't have the upper body control to be able to do that, but I think it would be empowering/confidence building for her to see.

The NWBA (National Wheelchair Basketball Association) requires that you have to have a disability or physical impairment that keeps you from participating in able-bodied sports. A lot of players are in wheelchairs, but there are some that you would never guess played...double knee replacements, one leg half an inch shorter than the other, etc, that are able to walk but not run or put a lot of strain on their legs for one reason or another.

Definitely, she'd love it. Even if she couldn't do basketball, there are a ton of other options out there. Get in touch with the wheelchair basketball coaches (both the men's and women's coaches are great guys, they'd love to help), they can point you in the right direction.

Thank you so very much. I will do that. When she was younger she participated in Special Olypmics. We were fortunate that she was able to finish high school. It was a great milestone, the down side being nowhere to go from there. It just about killed me, knowing she would never have a job, never drive, never have children.

At the risk of sounding like Dr. Phil, there's always somewhere to go if you know where to look

Not sure where in AL you're located or if you already know about this, but the Lakeshore Foundation in Birmingham is a nationally recognized wheelchair basketball facility that might be of interest to you and your relative. It's a great organization that assists many individuals and they have games scheduled their all the time. It is also the site where most of the Academy Award nominated film Murderball (don't be turned off by the film's title) about US Men's quadriplegic wheelchair rugby team was filmed. Check out their webpage here LINK and good luck to you and your family member.

Yet another UA team I was unaware of. I'm starting to feel like a bad fan...first the skeet team, then the hockey team and now this.
