The reason Boise st and Arizona st jumped them is solely because the rules last year were top 4 ranked conference champs got a bye

You are confusing rankings and the seedings. Arizona did not jump Penn State and Texas.
Georgia jumped Texas and Penn State in the rankings, because they (Penn State and Texas) lost their CCG. Arizona State went from 15th to 12th after their ccg.

Texas and PSU, both losers, did earn a bye under that format,

No, they didn't.
Texas played Clemson in the first round and Penn State played SMU.

So yes it is possible to a CCG to "hurt", but looking at how last years rankings would project in todays field and seeding, the one team that would have had a bye prior to CCG was ND and due to them not playing in one they got hurt.

Only time will tell. IF things stay the same as they are today in the top 5 teams (I doubt they will...something always happens) and IF A&M beats Alabama, I will be absolutely shocked if they keep Alabama as the #4 seed. If that happens, i would expect things to change again the next year.

Mind you, I am not arguing it SHOULD happen....just saying what I 100% believe will happen if that scenario plays out.

Hey...to all who are in this conversation....thank you all for keeping this civil. It's always great to have a serious conversation and state what we believe to be the truth without people getting mad, pouting or calling names.

Thanks to all of you (TexasOnTop, GeauxBurrow and Nast Canasta)

Imagine being a fan of a football team and thinking someone else is soft because they want their team to have a better chance to win games.

Is that anything like getting beat then blaming the loss on injuries?

The best position in the playoff is the 5 spot. You should stay there.

This is not true at all. The penalized both Texas and Penn State last year for losing their CCG.

I'm not even sure what you are arguing here. The losers of the CCGs only dropped as far as they were required to based on the criteria

The winners of Oregon/PSU and UGA/Texas were always going to get the 1/2 slot and the losers stayed as the top seeds outside the 4 required conference champ.

Both lost 1st round byes because they lost.

This is such a strange way to look at it. UGA and Oregon won first round byes because they won?
