You got it right, unfortunately, but I do hope this downturn does not extend to all football playing schools. Before TV dollars, it was more lucrative to be a head coach at McNeese State than it was to be a coordinator at an SEC program. My, how times have changed.
Still, I do hope that kids will still have the opportunity to play the game on scholarship, which will depend upon attendance at these lower programs and ultimately interest from the study body. It does seem like attendance is flagging at these fodder schools, though. Some play two loss games a year. Ultimately, most college football players are not within the 65 that matter.

Cold day in hell before Florida goes along with that.
This.
To be fair to Florida, though, a lot of presidents and people with academic clout in the SEC would have a problem with UCF. And those opinions affect conference alignment more than most people realize.
Even though it's made great strides in the past 20 years, UCF is still viewed as a "commuter" college by a significant number of people within academia. For example, it would be virtually impossible for UCF to place any of their Ph.D. graduates in a tenure-track job at an SEC institution. Those perceptions take a long time to go away.

I agree. UCF would have been a good choice over Mizzou.
Geographically southern; no more culturally southern than Mizzou though.
