LSU was bound to find a good coach, they have the money, nice stadium, etc. I mean after all LSU got him from Michigan State. It's not like they stole him from USC, Ohio State, Michigan, Notre dame, Florida, OU etc.
Actually LSU also helped Nick. Nick chose a program with GREAT in state talent, got PAID by LSU, paid in the NFL, getting PAID by Bama. Win win situation for both parties.

Well, since you asked...
He took a team that had just been slammed with probation and hadn't had a winning season since 1990, beat a #1 ranked Ohio State at the horseshoe, beat a highly ranked Notre Dame team, and in 1999 led Michigan to the best season they'd had since 1965 and their highest ranking since 1966 (ironically the same year that they would be half of the reason the '66 Bama team was robbed of a Championship).

Well you have to look at more than the final overall record... Sherill in his prime years at MSU had some really great teams. His first few years were rough b/c he had to build the program. His last 3 seasons were bad due to NCAA probing and family issues-he was so occupied with other shite he lost the cohesion of the team.
You can't ignore the fact that from 96-2000 he had the winningest program in the West, including a 10 win season and a SEC West Title.
He was a good coach, but not the best State has ever had. The best would have been Mckeen in the 30's and 40's who took State to 2 Orange bowls and an undefeated season and SEC title. Mullen will end up being better than Sherill also imo.

exactly- these people act like Crooms had to suffe so much during probation. Jackie left him with 2 top 20 recruiting classes and 6 future NFL players.
We lost some visits and such during probation- but 2 of those years Crooms didnt even use all the visits we were allowed anyway.

I love how in this thread all the MSU fans, who had Crooms as their coach, are wrong and everyone else is right based on what they saw on the Croom fluff piece

I remember that game. Me and a friend were dove hunting and listening to the game... got bored and poured all the shot out of a couple shotgun shells and did a 20 step turnaround to see who got hit by the plastic wad.
After the game told my friend he should have left the bb's in the shell. Also I think a punched a dent in my truck
