Here’s a timeline for you:
8/19/26: Athletes get judicial relief
8/25/26: SEC adopts a new rule* designed to circumvent relief
8/28/26: Judge restrains the SEC
9/3/26: During a hearing where the TRO advances to an injunction, the SEC files a federal lawsuit
9/3/26: SEC amends the suit and schedules a vote to expel LSU
Every time one sanctioning mechanism is restrained, the SEC attempts to substitute another. Voting LSU out or sanctioning LSU for this specific reason amounts to contempt at this stage.
*The new bylaw states “a contract with an NFL team” rather than “NFL player contract”. This would put anyone with minicamp players in violation.
