I grew up in College Station. Great place to live. Family friendly. Safe. Not really any major crime. Easy to get around. Perfect place to grow up. Great place to go to college. You are from Alabama? How are you gonna talk smack about anyone elses home?

I can take some academic smack from UF. Florida is a great school as well. What cracks me up is Ole Miss, LSU, and Bama fans coming in here and trying to do the same. Stick to the athletic ranting. You're out of your league on the academic side.

Well for one, it doesn't smell like a barn and I didn't have to worry about those pterodactyls that you guys call bats..

Agreed, location has an impact. I would assume Texas and Florida have a similar cost of living and thus, comparable salary markets. I could be wrong on that though.

On the 2nd part, what rankings should I look at? There are dozens of them and they are all so arbitrary. I saw us in the top 10 of one because it had "service to country" as a factor for example.
