Lol Perkins, Curry and Stallings were abysmal failures at every other coaching stop. Yet Perkins had moderate success (9 and 10 win season by year 3 and 4 plus never lost a bowl game). Curry also won 19 games in 2 of his 3 seasons, including an SEC title (and had Alabama undefeated leading up to the Iron Bowl in 89). Stallings won a national title.
Even Dumbass Dubose won an SEC title and Franchione won the west in 2002 although sanctions prevented Bama from playing in the SECCG.
Some of you guys put way too much stock into the Shula years... but even that idiot - with sanctions and zero head coaching experience - led Alabama to a 10 win season and an overall winning record when he was booted.
So yeah, it's not too difficult to win here considering even terrible coaches have moderate success.
