All the money and resources that have been invested into UAB over the years could've very well gone to UA. It hurt UA even more when the Blazers started their own football program, even though it's an embarrassment to nature.

Boo fricking hoo dude. Get over it. In 2003, the UAB Capital Campaign had raised over $388.7 million. UAB's endowment stood at just over $325 million in 2009. What money is UA pumping into UAB? UAB is y'alls cash cow, not the other way around.

Our football programs sucks arse bc of the UA BoT. We weren't allowed to have a football team until 1991. Also, we were forced to hire that twat Calloway instead of who we really wanted (Fisher). Should I mention that we're forced to play in that shithole Legion Field and are not allowed to build an OCS?

Most importantly, the medical school. It belonged to UA before the BOTs voted to move it B'ham years ago to capitalize on the population boom.

Also, it wasn't originally UA's medical school either. The University of Alabama School of Medicine can trace its roots back to the 1859 founding of the Medical College of Alabama in Mobile, Alabama. It wasn't moved to Tuscaloosa until the early 1900's.

What's funny is these UAB people are wanting to secede from the UA system, but what they fail to realize is UAB does not own the medical school, the UA system does. So if they did find a way to secede, they're going to lose the bread and butter of their school

This could happen, not gonna deny it, but that medical school currently says UAB not UA on it. DWI.

The only reason UAB exists today is because of greed. Nothing more, nothing less.

:cough:bullshite:cough:
UAB is the state's largest employer, with more than 18,000 faculty and staff and over 53,000 jobs at the university and in the health system. UAB ranks among Top-20 nationally in federal research and development funding and 1st in the state of Alabama, receiving more funding than all other Alabama universities combined.

But think about all the money and resources THE SYSTEM has spent on UAB over the years. My point: if UAB didn't exist, all of that could've very well gone to UA. Over time, the BoTs have invested an untold amount of money into UAB, especially before they became autonomous. Again, that money could've gone to UA.

Yet, you complain? At least they were kind enough to allow UAB to start a football team in the first place. Many extension schools can't say the same. This is why it was a mistake to begin with, because one thing leads to another and people can never be satisfied. Just imagine if UAB didn't field a football program today. They wouldn't be worrying about a new stadium, all they'd be asking for is a football team.

Because it's not an ideal investment, and definitely not a pragmatic project to be undertaking in this economy. Why build UAB a new stadium when it can't even fill up 25% of the stadium they're playing in now? Setting your bias aside, if you were an investor, would you take a chance on this? The only people who aren't looking at this rationally are the UAB fans.

I understand Bryant-Denny just underwent two separate expansions in less than five years, but that happens when you sell out every game for two and a half decades while the demand for tickets continue to rise. Otherwise, Alabama would still be playing most of their games in Legion Field.

But if they want a stadium that badly, I would GLADLY trade them Bryant-Denny for the medical school. Any day of the week!

UAB is a leader in the field of medicine, not athletics, and medicine is what they need to stick with. Johns Hopkins doesn't rely on what their lacrosse team does, they focus on medicine and they're another leader in that field.

No shiz. But if UAB had never been created, the prestigious medical school would currently be sitting pretty on UA's campus.

But it's governed and owned by the UA System, not UAB. If UAB ever lost the medical school, that would ultimately bury the school and city of Birmingham for good, which is why breaking away from the system would be a huge mistake.

Reading comprehension, cuz. I'm aware of UAB's impact on the state's economy (due in large part to the medical school, which is why I'm jealous)...

What I originally said was UAB was created by those evil BoTs to cash in on the population boom in Birmingham, especially after Tuscaloosa's population dropped immensely when the state capital was moved from T-Town to Montgomery back when coke was a penny and whores were hard to find.

But other than that, damn... didn't mean to make you mad, bro. Sorry if my jealousy offends you.

Auburn: The eagle thing (I'm a falconer) and their wildlife program. I almost went to AU for wildlife biology despite being a lifelong UA fan. I sit in a cubicle and kick my arse every day for not doing it. Not sure I ever could have cheered for their football team though.
