You act like no one got blown out when there were only 2 teams? It happened all the time. Nebraska beat the shite out of Florida and Florida beat the shite out of FSU the very next year. Notre Dame was blown out by Bama, Ohio State was blown out by Florida.....

2007 would’ve been a perfect year for an expanded playoff.

Depends on the year. Sometimes there really is only one dominant team.
We'll see, but I think 12 is way too many.
This year especially there were only a handful of teams that were reasonably what most people would consider "good."
In basketball you can cobble together three guys who can get hot, and shoot their way into a March upset. In the NFL, everyone is basically on the same or similar talent level.
There is no way in college football that these top handful of teams full of future professional talent will be challenged by the athletes on the other ones, unless it's just a barrage of trick plays or schemes that they've never seen. It's just not the same as other postseason tournaments.

Funny. But if the BCS rankings were applied this year, the results would have been
1. Oregon
2. Georgia
3. Notre Dame
4. Texas
5. Ohio State
6. Penn State
7. Tennessee
8. Indiana
9. Boise State
10. Arizona State
11. Alabama
12. SMU
So the only difference is that Alabama is in and Clemson is out (yikes!). Also, SMU is in despite just coming off a loss to Clemson for the ACC title. Both of those facts are pretty hilarious and would have caused a lot of howling that the computers suck and that we need humans to help fix it.
Still, I agree with you that computers should be used. Maybe for seedings perhaps.
