Today just confirmed the sec isn’t playing 9 games unless espn comes up with a ton of money. They cannibalized themselves this year.

When it was first amine the sec going to 16 teams two formats were being hotly debated:

3 permanents and 6 rotating
1 permanent and 7 rotating

This gets the maximum distribution of teams playing each other and evens schedules as much as possible.

Certain fan bases were not ok with this because 2 or 3 of their historic rivals are good.

AFAIK you can get the rival games with only 2 each. It will still work with 3 though.

9 games isn't good. We need SoS to matter and we need to have more OOC games of high quality.

When this first came out I was in the “Go to 9! We are big boys!” Seeing how it is now and frankly the deal ESPN is getting on the sec TV contract, I agree with you. Unless they pony up big time stay at 8

move to 9 games schedule

There is no incentive to do this after today.

With 1 or 3 permanents you can cycle through all 15 other SEC teams in 4 years if you play an 8 or 9 game schedule respectively.

I don’t know how that will work with 2 permanents because that’s 3 teams meaning there are 13 other teams. I can’t divide 13 evenly by 2 or 4
