This “problem” has existed for years. The SEC East was weak from 2010 till 2021. It was Georgia or Florida and everyone else while the west had at least 3-4 solid teams each year. Bama, LSU, Auburn, Ole Miss, Miss St., and Texas A&M were all top 5 teams at one point during that period. The East had several 3-loss champs.

Don't throw Ole Miss into this, they are the only program to never win the west.

They were still a top 5 team at one time in the past decade.

Yep you’re right. Divisions, Pods, will not work either. Soft arse Divisions and Pods result. Hell wait until playoffs start with weak arse conference champions from ACC and Group of 5s get in over a 2 loss SEC team.

There will always be weaker divisions/conferences though. Look at the NFL each year. The AFC South and NFC South are pretty bad this year.

In any given season there are never more than three teams that have anything close to a legit claim to the national championship.

The SEC has 16 teams in 1 conference with zero divisions.
The SEC won't split until the other conferences and ncaa settle and are locked in.

It would be back to the sec beating themselves up with atleast 3 playoff games. They fought to get out of 2 divisions.

& HOW many conferences are you wanting to have? Also, will each have a p/o representative? Just WHAT would that look like?

This is/was a discussion about conference structure, not the post-season.
If you want the most fair conference where you are more likely to crown the best team, it has to be smaller.

Your post said conferences should be no bigger than 6 teams. As I’ve stated before in posts, not many (if any) people want more conferences (which will occur if you shrink what we currently have…@16 teams, that’s 2 teams short of 3 6-team conferences by the SEC alone).

The post season would be impacted as well by that change.

To sum it up: smaller-sized conferences = MORE conferences.

Yes, obviously.

I responded to the initial post, which was a critique of the 16 team conference we have now. It had nothing whatsoever to do with how it would impact the post season.
I don't care how it would impact the playoffs. After several years of it, I have nostalgia for the ambiguity of the old system. It was unique to college football and had a charm of its own.
It beats a poor imitation of the NFL, which is where we're headed.

My post did not say conferences should have no more than 6 teams. I said if you wanted a conference to be the most fair, it would. A 10 team conference where they all play each other once per season is fair enough for me.

If a full round-robin is doable, I'm fine with that.
