Swinney has coached Clemson 10 full seasons.

I meant how many of those opponents that you've beaten at home finished in the top 10 dumbo

Fortunately no. I do recall not paying attention and a rock hit pretty close to my feet and I looked up to see where it came from. When I looked up it looked like a trailer park block party.

Initially Running Down the Hill was a matter of practicality. Before expansion of the stadium the field house for the football team used to be a few hundred yards away from the hill and the team would enter the field by running down the hill. Which was unique and the fans loved it. That’s how the tradition started.

During a later expansion the best place for the locker rooms was on the total opposite end, level with the field and at the bottom of the natural valley. There wasn’t any stands or buildings there at the time. Although the locker rooms were relocated the tradition of running down the hill remained.

What do you mean when you looked up? It looks like that everywhere at a UGA football game.

But it's not though. The LSU Tigers went there in the 50s and copied the name.

Clemson's Memorial Stadium was built in 1941. LSU's Tiger Stadium was built in 1924. Per Wikipedia, Clemson's Frank Howard began to use the term, "Death Valley", in the 1950's. Could not find a definitive date as to when LSU began to call its stadium, "Death Valley". LSU.SPORTS.NET does not mention it. Clemson's all-time home record: 316-102-7...75.6% (source: Clemson Media Guide) LSU's all-time home record: 425-151-18...73.8% (source: LSU.sports.net) One has to look at the competition through the years...Clemson's playing in the ACC---which has NEVER been a strong football conference---is very much handicapped by poor opponents most of the time. On the other hand, the SEC has ALWAYS been a strong conference. In fact, EVERY current conference member with the exception of one, has won at least one national championship. Regarding 3 of the original members, Georgia Tech, Tulane, and Sewanee, two of those did not win a national title. That's 14 schools out of 17 original and current members who've won at least one national title. Georgia fans, who've been to Clemson many times, will tell you that LSU's Tiger Stadium is the REAL Death Valley. No contest.

I fail to see how team performance is relevant when talking about copied stadium names

Considering the Aggies record since expansion in tiger stadium, I would think y’all would call LSU’s stadium Death Valley without any questions.

And Clemson does have 44-16.

Got to admit that.

I never understood this. The players are inside the stadium. Go outside the stadium. Then go back inside the stadium.

Clemson is 67-7 (.905) at Death Valley under Swinney, including a 35-1 record in the last five-plus seasons. Does that help?

and...

The Post and Courier have the best breakdown of the "Death Valley' Origin:

P&C Article on Death Valley

Excerpt:

quote:

Back in the 1940s, it was tradition for the Clemson football team to open its season against the Presbyterian Blue Hose, whose coach at the time was Lonnie McMillian.

In 1943, Presbyterian defeated Clemson, 13-12. A year later, Clemson avenged the loss with a 34-0 victory. In 1945, it was even worse for visiting Presbyterian — a 76-0 defeat...

That’s when McMillian, who had visited Death Valley, Calif., on his way to Los Angeles for the 1932 Olympic Games, coined Clemson’s Memorial Stadium as college football’s Death Valley. He noted that the stadium, which is located in a natural ravine and built of concrete instead of metal because of shortages during Wold War II, is brutally hot in early fall and one of the toughest places for visiting teams to play.

One of McMillian’s former players at Presbyterian, Cally Gault, confirmed the story to Blackman about five years ago, and Gault even signed an affidavit in 2012 vouching that McMillian did indeed refer to Clemson’s stadium as Death Valley.

?(Gault) said, ‘I do remember this more than anything — it was hot. I mean, real hot at Clemson,’” Blackman recalled. ”‘You haven’t felt hot until you’ve played at Death Valley in early September.’”

So the mid 40's is when "Death Valley" start being used with Clemson's stadium.

I don't really care..there's room for both. Hell, we share the 2016 and 2018 national titles with LSU so why not stadiums?

With all of the Texas talk this week, I have to ask. If Johnny frickboi played safety for aggy, do you think they would have fared better during his time there? Considering Jimbo's entire legacy as a head coach is built off of the accomplishments of one successful quarterback at FSU, it's a real shame that he missed his time to shine at Texasjr.
