Regardless, I'm seeing OSU as having the #3 SOS heading into this season

Think your looking at their fpi score.

Year in and year out ESPN releases its Football Power Index rankings for all 130 FBS teams. Many factors go into these FPI rankings, including the strength of schedule (SOS). According to the latest edition, the Big 12 Conference as a whole has the toughest SOS in college football. All 10 teams rank in the top 20.

That sure indicates that other conferences were leaving the Big 12 in the dust

Oklahoma beat a decimated Florida team in the Cotton Bowl. Good win

Oklahoma State beat Miami in the Cheez-It Bowl

Iowa State beat unranked 4-3 Oregon in the Fiesta Bowl. Be reminded that Oregon was only there because the division champ, Washington, couldn't play in the Pac 12 title game due to COVID. They also finished behind Stanford in the division but won a weird COVID tie-breaker.

Texas beat 4-2 Colorado in the Alamo Bowl

West Virginia beat Army in the Liberty Bowl

So the Big 12 beat 2 Pac 12 teams (arguably the worst conference in the country), 1 SEC team, an ACC team, and an independant.

The SEC went 7-2 in Bowl games.

Georgia beat undefeated #8 Cincinnati in the Peach Bowl.

Alabama beat #4 Notre Dame in the ROSE Bowl (CFP) and undefeated #7 OSU in the CFP Title game

Florida lost to OU as already mentioned.

3-7 Mississippi State beat 6-2 Tulsa in the Armed Forces Bowl

Unraned Auburn lost to #14 Northwestern in the Citrus Bowl

4-6 Kentucky beat #23 8-3 NC State in the Gator Bowl

4-5 Ole Miss beat #11 6-1 Indiana in the Outback Bowl

To me, it looks like SEC teams beat a bunch of teams as underdogs while the Big 12 teams played as big favorites in 4 of their 5 bowl games.

Damn. We were so good last year we won 2 bowl games? Big time addition for the SEC if you ask me.

Lol my response wasn't "Big 12 is better than the SEC". It was to point out the fallacy of saying that the Big 12 was being left behind every other P5 conference

I'd rank them

1. SEC
2. Big 10
3a. ACC
3b. Big 12
5. Pac 12

Damn. It's a shame that the SEC wanted two teams from the Big 12 then... But I'm sure the ACC and Big 10 went undefeated in their bowl games as well.

That is 14 consecutive years being ranked #1 by Alabama for at least 1 week.

And you only won 6 of those titles. That is underachieving.

Did I say every team in the Big 12 was terrible? Oklahoma is a very good program.

The Big 12 also went 1-5 in bowl games in 2019 or do we only operate in one-year windows?

I mean would you honestly rank the Big 12 higher than 3rd as a conference. And if so, why exactly?

Because top to bottom it is consistently regarded as the second or third ranked conference in the nation.

Actually it's regarded as a soft conference with teams that have no clue how to play defense and a champion that gets absolutely demolished by real competition in the playoffs.

You're really going to have to stop puting so much stock in any computer rankings in the 2020 season, especially when the Big 10 and Pac 10 played half a season's worth of games. When some teams played as many as 14 games and others as few as 5, it kind of devalues any model like that. Showing me a 2020 ranking does not show they are "consistently regarded as the second or third ranked conference in the nation." It shows me from a computer that in a very unusual season they were.

The Big 12 was 3rd in 2019, slightly above the ACC. They were 2nd in 2018, 4th in 2017, 5th in 2016, 3rd in 2015. That's an average of 3.4 from 2015-2019. So why does it offend you I had them ranked 3rd?

ESPN FPI 2021 Strength of Schedule:

1) Arkansas
2) Auburn
3) Kansas
4) Texas
5) TCU
6) Iowa State
7) LSU
8) West Virginia
9) Ole Miss
10) Oklahoma State
11) Texas Tech
12) Kansas State
13) Alabama
14) Mississippi State
15) Baylor

Arkansas has the #1 SOS because their conference schedule includes #1, #5, #6, #13, and #25. Same with Auburn.

You had them ranked 4th, and they've finished ranked higher than that in all but 2 seasons in the last 6 football seasons

No I didn't. I had them and Clemson at 3a and 3b.

The ACC was 5th in 2019, 4th in 2018, 3rd in 2017, 2nd in 2016, and 5th in 2015. That puts Texas at 3.4 and Clemson at 3.8 on average from 2015-2019. Pretty close, no?

And there you have it: I said ranked top to bottom. You are looking at one team.

We can agree to disagree. Either way - Texas and Oklahoma aren't playing in the Big 12 for much longer anyhow. Just pointing out what the other poster said regarding how the Big 12 was the worst power 5 conference when that has been statistically proven to be categorically false.

I don't think we even disagree I have them ranked third and you have them ranked third. It's like you're arguing for the sake of arguing.

No, I'm using the same ELO ranking you were using for conference rankings

I'm aware of why they are #1, they also have a decent OOC schedule.
