Was it the cheerleaders or the gymnastics squad that recently won a national championship, and the university refused to buy them rings for it?

Cheerleaders. The athletic department only buys rings for their NCAA teams.

It takes 4 busses to carry 70 players and 10 coaches? So that's like 20 people per bus. Does everyone really need 5 or more seats to be comfortable?

The team will generally be on two busses, support staff will be on another, and the fourth will be athletic dept staff.

Kinda wondered that too. Does the Bama team stay in a hotel before home games? I know LSU used to, but I don't know about now.

Yes, they do stay in a hotel for home games too.

That seem reasonable for the number of people, equipment and logistics involved..... What is the point of this.

I have held business meetings that cost a lot more than this.

I'm still confused as to why they are driving to stay in Tupelo when its about 10 minutes closer than Tuscaloosa. I understand the need for the hotel, but why not just stay at their typical home game hotel?
