Mackey, Stoudt and Stanley are the only ones in the battle to start. I imagine Mackey is the leader but it depends on what kind of offense we decide to run. If Nutt wants to stay with the same offense as last year Mackey will start for sure. If he wants to go to more of a pro style of passing game then Stoudt and Stanley have the edge. It all depends on which QB works the best with which offense in the spring.
We will have a good running game with Markuson + whole 2 deep back on the offense line with Jeff Scott and Brandon Bolden. It might come down to which QB makes the least mistakes in the passing game. If that is the case then Stanley probably gets the starting nod. This will be one of the most important springs for us on both sides of the ball in a long time.
CB, LB, DT and weather Shack plays mainly DE or LB need to all be answered before 2 a days. We shall see if that is the case.

If DT isnt put at SLB full time. Then Nix deserves to be fired IMO

I dont see Stanley beating out Mackey unless he still cant call the plays in the huddle

IMO if C. Jackson and Marry are as advertised then the need is more at DE opposite Lockett. We need all the help we can get on the D-line with the lack of experience at DT.

I agree but if our running game is good and Mackey has the Sneed/Favre complex of trying to force throws and Stanley is more protective of the ball I would have no problem with Stanley playing. This is all based on the fact we have no idea what Mackey is going to do in game type situations.

How is he still on the team?

This will cost DT a shot at playing on Sundays, and isnt needed especially if Clos and Jones are ready. Dorsey can sit down, imo.

I know we need help, but isnt that why we signed 2 juco DTs?

When in doubt tuck it and run

Whats pathetic is that all of them suck.

Nutt gave him a list of things to do to get back on the team and last I heard he was all squared away with Nutt for spring practice.

IMO he is a 3 -4 OLB/DE anyway. It won't hurt his stock that much.

Well I would feel much better with 2 all conference ends out there to be honest.

I dont know what to make of that. I dont wanna recruit kids from bible camp not named Tebow, but we have to draw the line somewhere

Putting him at SLB is the best way to use him imo. Nix's defense isnt exactly rocket science and he is our best LB

Didnt Lockett play in a All Star game thus forfeiting his eligibility?

Not that I am aware of. I follow him on twitter and he is still rehabbing and waiting on his word from the NCAA. He should get his 5th year. The line is 4 games and he got hurt in the 4th game last year and didn't play against JSU because of an injury.

What I don't like is that almost 20% of our current roster is made up of QB's...

The upcoming year for Ole Miss will be interesting.
Hootie does have a habit of overcompensating in certain positions when recruiting, but what gets my attention is the appearance of putting more emphasis on a passing game. Of course, we have seen that when he was at Arkansas too. This next year might actually turn out better for Ole Miss than I had initially expected...but who can confidently say what will happen? The coaching changes could make a big difference but who knows?

I thought the deal was that he had already redshirted once, and now he is applying for a 6th year of eligibility. I thought I read that he was invited to the NFL combine, so Im not sure if he is coming back considering the need for sports for your new recruits due to Nutt oversigning.

What?
You're allowed to have 85 guys on scholarship (I have no idea what the limit for walk-on players is, and if you're counting the walk-ons in this calculation then your entire premise is flawed anyway). Out of that 85, we have four quarterbacks on scholarship. 4/85 = 4.7%
4.7% < 20%

He was invited, but that doesn't mean anything.
And Nutt didn't oversign this year. The SEC imposed limit (or the "Nutt Rule," as you may know it) is 28. Ole Miss signed 27.
27 < 28
There are a lot of people who can't count or do rudimentary mathematics on the Rant this morning. I'll assume you're all in need of that second cup of coffee.

Why all the hate for Stanley? What has he done wrong at Ole Miss? I mean the guy was days away from being your #1 QB after they didnt clear Masoli at first. Its amazing how you guys think that he is a chump and has no chance of starting next year.
