well, he's better than all of those 3. 2 sweet 16's at 2 different schools and coach of the year in 2 different conferences.
Davis went to the title game. Mike Anderson went to a sweet 16 at a mid major just like trent and its only Davis' 3 year at Mizzou. Anthony Grant is just young and has never coached at a decent school. Trent Johnson is a fine coach, but don't act like he strikes fear or is elite.

hell, we consistently were better than Alabama with BRADY.
bullshite. JB and MG coached over basically the same time frame. JB got to the Final 4 1 time and MG got to the Elite 8 1 time. Neither coach ever won the SEC tourney. JB also went to 1 more sweet 16, but MG went to 1 more NCAA tourney. I'd say Brady was marginally better than MG just because of the Final 4. LSU was most certainly not consistently better than Bama, don't kid yourself.

how conference and division titles? Brady was just better than Gottfried. Thats all there is to it.

Mike Davis is getting alot of support

What's the big surprise with MA leaving the ZOU?
They sellout about 4 games a years. No different the Bama!! Whats so special about Mizzou? This place sucks! No place like the south.

JB won the division 2 time and the conference 2 times. MG won the division 2 times and the conference 1 time. In 10+ seasons, JB is 192-139 (74-93) and MG is 210-132 (83-82). I'd give Brady a very slight advantage due to a Final 4 appearance, a sweet 16 and 1 more conference title. But Gottfried has a better overall record record, a better conference record, and 1 more NCAA tourney appearance.

Hey, I'm partial to the SEC too, and Anderson does have ties to the state, but just listening to some analysts here and there, on rivals radio for instance, and the thought seems to be that Mizzou will keep him and is possibly a better basketball school.....He's clearly a better choice than Davis, IMO.

How many basketball coaches strike "fear" into anyone?
and what exactly is the point of arguing over who was better out of gottfried and brady? both sucked

That doesn't mean diddle in the SEC. The SEC tournament is fun,but only in the ACC and Big East do they consider that their champion.
As much as I'm glad Brady is gone,he did a better job at LSU than Gottfried did at Alabama.

Mike Anderson, Mike Davis, Anthony Grant......all peas in the same pod. None of them will put much fear into the SEC.
I was just responding to this tard.

Someone said that Brady was hands down better than Gottfried which is clearly wrong. I think both coaches get a raw deal from their respective fanbases.

I disagree. Winning the tourney does mean something.

Who do you ,or most SEC fans consider the 2002 SEC champion, Alabama or Mississippi State ?

They're 2 different champs: regular season and tourney. It's harder to win the regular season than to pull a UGA and just get hot at the end, but the conference tourney is important.

he's not a very likable guy. Very abrasive, constant complainer and ran off way too many players and fans, for that manner.
Normally a Final Four run at a school like LSU would get you some extra years, but he brought his dismissal on himself last spring.

Its two different "champs", but the more important one is the tournament championship.

The SEC basketball tournament really doesn't mean that much.
Posted on 2/11/09 at 9:30 am to I-59 Tiger
It means a hell of a lot for the NCAA Tourney...an automatic berth and no worries about making the cut in the selection committee.

Which is exactly what teams that won the tournament like Auburn in 1985, Arkansas 2000 and Georgia last year had to do to make the tournament while the regular season champion(s) had no such worries. No SEC regular season champion has ever received less than a 5 seed and that was one time in 2000 when there was a 4 way tie for regular season champion.

I don't recall any four way ties for tourney champ....just sayin'
You asked what different people consider the champ, and I look at it as two different types of championship, with a slight emphasis on the tourney champ.

Trent Johnson was the second best coach in the SEC before he even coached a minute in the SEC based on his accomplishments at both Nevada and Stanford. He left the Pac 10 on the heels of finishing 28-8, going to the sweet sixteen, and being named Pac 10 Coach of the Year. Donovan is clearly the best coach in the league based on what he's been able to do and while I think there are some other good coaches in the league, but haven't accomplished as much.
