For Clowney to win it, the gamecocks would really have to run the table and stay relevant for the whole season, like 2010. They'd have to somehow accomplish that without Lattimore taking the spotlight. I'm not sure if it's possible.
Clowney will still be All American and win every relevant award for defensive players.

This season, leading up to the Carolina loss in October, there were only two SEC players in the ESPN Heisman watch.
Murray and Gurley.
Of course, got blown out in Columbia and ended that.
But, if Murray returns, new season, new slate, he's already broken every school record and already broken Peyton's record. He'll break every NCAA passing record.
Just need an SEC Championship win and Murray would be a shoe-in, over Gurley. Gurley can take it in 2014.

I would place a bet that the heisman winner will be someone completely off the radar.

Yep that's how it's been the last couple of years.

Meh, not a big deal. Tebows Heisman year was statistically his best year and Florida went 9-4 (their worst record under Tebow). 2008-2009 Tebow just utilized the weapons around him better, wasn't as much of a one man show, and had a much better defense.
I think a lot of Tebow's fall-off in production was because SEC DCs started scheming for him - and they will do the same to Mainzel.

No, he was interviewed last week and was asked that. He says he gets one.

Clowney is already being projected to go #1 overall in the 2014 draft which means he will be closely watched next season and that's going to keep him in the public eye. If USCe at least makes the SEC Championship game I think he has a legit shot .

That's what I meant by "stay relevant".

My fear is that he will play, and he'll be the comeback kid that America loves... the poor hard luck kid who lost it all, but fought hard to come back and now making a run for it all... blah blah blah. That would screw Clowney for Heisman.

If anybody deserves the Heisman and I would have no issue if he made a strong enough return that he could win a Heisman trophy

Hill is the only current LSU player I see that has a shot and that is an extremely long shot at best.
