Well, BDS is kind of new to the 'decent stadium' conversation, really. Alabama (and Auburn) played a lot of our bigger games in Birmingham for a long time specifically because Denny Stadium (as it was known at the time) was so small and dinky.
What's always impressed me about the BDS renovations, though, is the quality of the stadium lighting. The pic I linked is a perfect example of that.

Yeah, UT played against Bama in Birmingham for the longest time. Those lights are definitely nice. When I'm being honest BDS is a really nice stadium.

quote:Yeah. Good venue, but it's not as electric on average as some of the other places in the SEC. We can get loud, but Tiger Stadium at night and Kyle are usually louder. Neyland generally seems to be too, at least until half y'alls fans leave in protest.

I think its modern incarnation goes back to undefeated Auburn being left out of the BCS Title game in 2004.
No.
Its Chris Leak and Florida beating Ohio St. that started the SEC chant.
The national media thought 2 Big 10 teams were the best teams in the nation and should have a re-match instead of letting a lowly SEC team into the Championship game.

Neyland is electric when there's hope of winning but it can be as quiet as a morgue (even when people are there) when hope is lost. I'm honestly surprised fans turned out as much as they did this season.
We registered loudest in CFB a few years ago against Oklahoma (Stoops was dumb enough to say playing at Neyland wouldn't matter) but afterwards former OU players talked about it a lot. They were shocked at how loud it was. So much so one of them kept a blog about how OU needed to make it's atmosphere more like ours.
Hopefully, Pruitt will keep us from getting blown out to the point where fans go quiet or leave while he finishes up the rebuild. I can't remember the last time we had a defensive minded coach.

It's a good look for a guy like Kiffin. It makes Stoops look like a manchild.

I wish we had this registered. Never found a reading for it. It had to be near the top ever. My ears were ringing after for a good few minutes. I mean the eruption was absolutely insane.

At the risk of seeming like I'm picking on Prof, the loudest I've ever heard BDS was right after Cody's second blocked FG in 2009.
That was mayhem.
That was mayhem.

What I don't get is that everyone said Bama should not be in but this same scenario happened last year and Ohio st got in when Penn st was big 10 champs.
Did not hear any of this crap about Ohio st not being deserving and if I remember got man handled by Clemson.
Why all of the sudden it's bad now but not then

Oh you SOB!
I've heard that the Rammer Jammer after we beat Auburn in 2008 was louder, but I wasn't there.

ETA: I wasn't loud at first, because I was convinced we were about to lose and I was going to have to drink myself to death. I couldn't watch it. I was like, "W-what happened?"

Oh I know. And it was LOUD.
For some reason things have gotten tamer since the game moved to BDS. I've heard some insane stories about when it was in Birmingham.

Part of [the Birmingham mystique] is that Legion Field is a piece of shite in a shitty part of Birmingham and the fact that you're not sure if your life is going to end that night contributes to the tension and atmosphere.

I'd bet it was about the same. No way anyone didn't scream at those moments. Both blocks saved a title run.

This is very likely a key contributor.
