That's because OU got the benefit of the calls in the Big 8 and Big 12 era for football against any potential upsets because it increased Big 12's chances of being represented in championship games. When Nebraska played for the title their last year, the calls were blatantly in support of OU for the title game. Just like the calls were blatantly in favor of KU to keep MU from winning the basketball crown on the way out the door.
