Can we make this statement yet?

With the exception of the Sugar Bowl, even the few bowl wins from this season are less than impressive. Auburn and Arkansas need OT to knock off Northwestern and East Carolina? Really?

LSU can't beat Penn State. Kentucky and Tennessee lost. Georgia's performance was somewhat impressive, but we all know A&M doesn't play D.

Thoughts?

This year our ranks accurately describe our positions. We are down this year. Our bowl games are sucking. No other way to skin that cat. But our collective OOC games are wayyyyy still dominate.

SEC is slightly down as a whole this year. But... you can't call a conference that has won 3 straight BCS titles, where the games were barely competitive, over-rated.

We will still finish in the top 1 or 2 conferences as far as win % and will bring the NC back home to the SEC for the 4th straight year. Not the complete domination everyone is used to, but a solid year to hold us off til next year when we start it all over again.

I can only think of one really quality win, though....Alabama over Virginia Tech.

Will you still think that when Alabama beat Texas for the NC?

So I guess Bama beating Florida is not a quality win ?

Florida destroying unbeaten Cinci was not a quality win ?

Mid-Level SEC teams beating the two teams playing in the ACC title game aren't quality wins ?

Having the champ doesn't make your conference good. See USC for most of this decade.

That said, I would call the SEC "top heavy" with Florida and Alabama being impressive and the rest of the conference being mediocre.

However, when you consider that both Alabama and Florida played some of those mediocre teams close (Bama: see LSU, Tennessee, and Auburn), I have to question the perception of the strength of these teams.

We were talking OOC, here. m2pro said the SEC's OOC record from the beginning of the year was "dominant."

It was dominant. However, I question the strength of that schedule.

Naturally, Florida's win over Cincinnati would not be included in that discussion. Florida's win last night was quite impressive, although I think that had more to do with Cincy sucking.

Show me a conference that is not "top heavy"

with the current 5-4 record there is no way to say either way for sure until after the BCSCG.

Those were nice wins, yes. But does that speak more to the strength of the SEC or the weakness of the ACC?

We have already seen how bad South Carolina is in their bowl game. Georgia looked good and seems to have turned a corner late in the year. Good for them.

Ole Miss beat an Okie State team that limped to the finish. Georgia beat a team that has no defense...none.
