The NCAA made a big deal about that because it was discriminatory.

The phrasing they used focused on the safety and security of the athletes and fans (i.e. trans players or fans being arrested for trying to go the bathroom, assaulted while in the required bathroom, generally treated badly in the state, etc.). Safety and security would obviously be implicated in this situation, so I don't think they'd hesitate to act.

Would you have had Phil Fulmer going into Bryant Denny during the Albert Means situation if every Alabama fan had a gun on them? Saban to Tiger Stadium? Spurrier to...well, just about anywhere? That gif of the Ole Miss basketball player taunting the Auburn fans? That one maybe turns out differently if everyone has a gun on them. Hell, Alabama fans even shoot their own friends and family members just because the Tide loses a game. What in the hell would they do to the OTHER team?

It would be insane for the NCAA to allow any game played under its brand to risk that kind of situation.
