UT's campus is just ugly. Gorgeous land around it but the campus itself is ugly
It's not ugly anymore. They opened up a whole lot of green spaces and have really renovated things and added new good looking buildings. For a while tho' we had way too much concrete and visitors there for a football game usually only saw the buildings that were built in the 60/70s which aren't the purtiest. Ironically either side of campus has always been better looking than the buildings most see on gameday.

These threads are always a waste of time. Everyone is going to rank campuses and towns that they've never even visited and everyone is going to get arse hurt when their town isn't at or near the top.

Wish there were better spots to fish.

You'll really have to clarify what you're ranking. Beauty? Nightlife? Entertainment options? Populace? Ability to walk across campus without getting gorilla-raped? Neon-to-painted-gables ratio? I've been to 12 of the 14 and I'd rank them completely differently in various lists depending on what quality I'm trying to rank.

Nashville definitely wins the neon sign category, imo.

Hmm. That list is pretty much "football, you like? Yes? Yes? Then you come here. Very football, very football." Not quite the same thing as ranking the overall experience.

Neon and related billboard advertising irritate me no end. Nashville's a big city, but some of the more picturesque SEC towns have lost some of their charm because of that issue. Tuscaloosa, when I was last there, had become quite a bit overdeveloped from the first time I saw it, and I think Athens is heading the same way in places.

This is such a misinterpreted thread title. Starkville as a city ranks last, but our campus is beautiful and middle of the pack. Knoxville is a great city, but Tennessee campus is a concrete jungle and extremely hilly.

Out of where I've been taking into account aesthetics, bars, atmosphere, women, etc.
1. Oxford (slightly biased)
2. Tuscaloosa (always have a good time there)
3. Nashville (not as much about Vandy as the city itself)
4. Columbia, SC (Grilled Teriyaki is my shite)
5. Columbia, Mo. (Lots of fun minus the cargo shorts)
6. Athens (lots of bars, but more hobos)
7. Knoxville (so much construction)
8. Auburn (nothing great except Sky Bar)
9. Starkville (amazing baseball gameday)

This dude ranked Athens ahead of Nashville, Columbia and Baton Rouge? And Auburn in the top five and Starkville isn't last?
Tell me this is a troll attempt!

I guess I am the only one that doesn't think highly of Nashville.

To be fair, I haven't been there in a decade, but the last time I saw the MSU campus, it did seem sort of...Soviet, I think would be the word, except with more brick than cinder block. But I assume things have progressed since then?

The best thing about Nashville though is that it's a big city with a small town feel to it. There are obviously parts you don't visit unless you're looking for trouble but for the most part you feel safe there unless you wander into one of those areas. In the late 90s and early 00s (when we were all flush with cash from a booming economy) even the poor areas of Nashville were well kept and safe. I wish that was still the case there because it's always been a charming place.
I hope you're wrong about Athens changing too much but it really wouldn't surprise me. Tuscaloosa seems to have gotten a lot more dangerous than it used to be - I don't know if that's just perception or if that's reality but it seems more dangerous than it once was.

If you haven't been here in 10 years, you probably wouldn't even know you were in Starkville tbh. It's more than likely the most progressed campus in the SEC over the past 10 years.

It is kind of unfortunate that in order to get to campus from the I 20/59 in Tuscaloosa, you have to go through the shitty/industrial side of town. If you had to come from the northern side which is much nicer IMO, I imagine the opinion of the town wouldn't be as negative.
ETA: I do agree that Tuscaloosa is rapidly becoming overdeveloped. They recently tore down some older houses near Tuscaloosa Country Club to make way for a new apartment complex. It is a damn shame too.
