I think 18 or 19 regular season wins would put us firmly in the conversation.

Not unless you're planning on making the finals of the conference tournament.

18 wins would give Tennessee an RPI of 37 and 19 wins would give us an RPI of 29 (per RPIWizard).

That would be more than enough to get Tennessee right on the edge of the field of 68.

If you say so. I hope you aren't putting much faith in that. Does that record put you in the top four of the league? If not you will need a deep run. That ROI is good for nothing but breaking your heart.

If we win Saturday it will at least be worth following which would make the rest of the season much more fun.

Problem is with this young team they are just too up and down to expect consistent performances.

I'd love to dream though.

TN would be on the bubble or barely in if they can get to 19 wins IMO with their SOS.

SOS is like 9th in nation now.

Not getting my hopes up, just stating that 18-19 wins would make things very interesting.

Saw this on twitter:

Take a look at Vandy's profile from last year. Extremely, extremely similar to this Tennessee team.

As of Jan. 25:

Tennessee 2017:
11-9 (4-4), RPI: 51, KenPom: 42, SOS: 5
Top 50 Wins: 1 (Kentucky)
Sub 100 Losses: 0

Vanderbilt 2016:
11-8 (3-4), RPI: 64, KenPom: 32, SOS: 23
Top 50 Wins: 0
Sub 100 Losses: 1 (Arkansas)

Vandy finished 19-12 and went one and done in Nashville and they were the last team in.

It always depends on what the bubble looks like but I think you better at least finish in the top five of the standings. That goes for Arkansas too.

You're bringing Arkansas(16-4 RPI 27) into a discussion about Tennessee making the tourney?

For what?

I'm bringing every SEC team into it. I think you have to finish high in the league to get an at large, regardless of your other metrics. Especially if you have less than 20 wins.

Vanderbilt's resume on Selection Sunday (following a loss to a terrible Tennessee team in the round of 12 on Thursday of the SECT)

19-13 (11-7), RPI: 60, KenPom: 27, SOS: 43
Top 50 Wins: 2 (Kentucky, Texas A&M)
Sub 100 Losses: 2 (Arkansas, Tennessee)

This kind of resume is very, very possible for Tennessee to get to with what's left on the schedule. Do you disagree?

You're worth following because you have a good team and every game matters. No doubt it should be an exciting or heartbreaking month for teams like Tennessee. I would say Ole Miss but I just don't see us finishing high enough in the standings despite other metrics being good.

Vandy making it last year certainly boosts your cause for hope. They finished fifth in the league though, which I think is the minimum a team needs to do in this conference.

Well no shite. The last place team isn't getting in the tourney.

Tennessee still has a shot and Arkansas is most likely going to the tourney unless they collapse down the stretch.

If that would put Tennessee in the conversations then both UGA and Arkansas will be in. SEC isn't taking 5 or 6 teams to the dance.

UGA has a tough stretch going forward. Tougher than Tennessee IMO.

UGA has: Kentucky x2, @SCar, Florida, @Tenn, State, @Bama, @Arkansas. So, 5 games remaining against top 4(RPI) in league and AT Tennessee. I included State because they play well some nights and included @Bama because it is tougher than LSU & Auburn at home.

Tennessee has: @State, @Auburn, Ole Miss, Georgia, @UK, @SCar, Vandy, Alabama, @LSU and Missouri at home, but meh...its Missouri. So, Tennessee has the hardest part of their schedule out of the way in league play. Tennessee only has 2 games remaining against the top 4(RPI) in the league. I could really see Tennessee finishing 9-2 with a win over KState thrown in there this weekend. If that happens, Tennessee finishes 19-11(12-6) with one of the toughest SOS in the nation and a late OOC win over KState and a very good in conference win over UK.
