Our fg kicker is very good, our kor is maybe the best unit in tbe league, and our punting might be the best in tbe country. Don't be dumb.
I don't disagree with anything you said, but none of that really is indicative of Cochran

on the other hand....have you ever seen a team with a very weak S&C program?

Hint: They do make a difference. It really is strange how quickly Alabama fans turn on a coach when he leaves.
It's simple really. he wanted an on field coaching job, and Saban did not think he was ready. That's okay. Saban is typically an excellent judge of talent (except where ST are concerned) Georgia was willing to try him at ST. He doesn't hate Alabama. Why do all of you run him down every chance you get?

Thank you Scott for taking that kicking curse to UGA and letting us Bama fans not have to hide our eyes any time we line up for FGs and EPs
See? This is what I am talking about. You blame Cochran for your kicking woes? he wasn't your ST coach. he was your S&C coach.

Some of you guys are just weird as all get out.

I’ll add it’s a douchebag move to try to take credit for all those Bama players Saban put into the league. Not one NFL team said I’m taking those guys because Scott Cochran is the SC guy.
What? You think people don't realize that Saban is the HC at Alabama?

Never turned on him. Not sure where you drew that thread

Never said STs coaches were irrelevant. Just that no circumstances or game situations emerged last night that had any significance of STs coaching influence rather than skill position players on STs doing their jobs, high coverage kicks, touch back KOs, and FGs. The one returnable kick Waddle got was a huge return wiped out by a nonsense block in the back on a guy that Waddle would have shaken and pulled away from onnhis own.
It is not a knock on Cochran in any way. But, last night's game was not a highlight film for UGA STs coaching and scheme.

I think this is accurate. Kickers and punters are like golfers.Don’t really need coaching until it goes bad and then a specialist is need to get them straight

I don't know. Maybe this thread? maybe the thread that was started when he left Alabama? maybe some of the comments made by you and some other Alabama threads refusing to give him credit for the job he has done so far?

2 questions.
1. Have you ever played college football?
2. If not do you know what they do?
Because I can answer both questions with a yes. They don't have the responsibility that some others do, but they don't pay them to stand around.

I think this is accurate.
But it isn't.
Punters and kickers are both timed to see how long it takes to get a kick off from the hike to the kick. The space in between steps are measured with a close eye on the number of steps they take.
Let me put it to you another way. Some of the very best hire personal coaches. They don't do that because there is nothing to be done unless something goes wrong.

Yes timing I agree. Mechanics are more specific. So in part I agree. I should have clarified that

I remember coaches working with kickers and punters on the high school level, but they seem to think at the highest levels of Division 1 football they just wing it.

Won more than I lost in high schools in South Carolina before retiring. But had a lot of good players most years. Sometimes it was simply making sure they got on the bus

Okay. Do you think ST coaches might work with the coordination of the long snapper, holder and kicker?
How about the blockers in front of the punter?
The difference is kicking a short punt to kill it without going into the end zone?
Angles to kick at to get a punt to go out of bounds?

Maybe Georgia high schools put more time into special teams, then. Not a knock on SC football, y'all have put out some very good players. But we worked on ST a lot when I played.

Sure but I am saying If a punter is having problems with mechanics he probably needs someone who has coached or worked with punters.
Posted on 10/18/20 at 8:30 pm to DawgsLife
I have in the past. Some years I had kickers that could hit it in the end zone a high percentage. Bad part of that is kids tend to get out of lanes. Some years had to pooch it. Just depends.
I am not knocking a ST coach. Punt and kickoff will get you beat in a heartbeat. And I don’t think Georgia’s.kicking game is a downfall. Just saying the actual kicker/ punter sometimes is in need of specific coaching

Guess we have different philosophies on this because we have dedicated kicking coaches where I’m at.

Hilarious pic. Like washing the neighbor's car then taking a pic and calling it your own.

Kirby had to admit after the beatdown that "Alabama out physical us." Perhaps Smart should try to convince Cochran where he is needed most.
