Rural counties not many dedicated kicking coaches. Would have loved to have had someone who was dedicated to kickers. No money for supplements and nobody within a hour that knew anything about mechanics. Don’t think it’s as much as different philosophy as different circumstances.

It’s also no secret that coaches can make more in Georgia than SC. Just as pay is higher in SC than NC. Little different

And I don’t think Georgia’s.kicking game is a downfall.

That is an area of absolute strength for us. Our kicking game is the best it's been in a while, and it'd been very solid the last few years.

Just saying the actual kicker/ punter sometimes is in need of specific coaching
Which falls to the ST coach. If he is incapable, you get more help. I get that punters and kickers are a very specialized group that maybe one guy needs help with, though.

I think you are understanding what I am saying. Simply that sometimes kickers and punters may need extra help from someone who has done it or specializes in that. I had a kicker back in the day that went 4 hours one way to Atlanta a few times a year for help. Ended up kicking at Furman. It’s just such a complex movement that if it goes bad for him a X’s and O’s guy may only can do so much.

Comment was not a slam or negative comment towards Cochran. Or saying all a ST coach does is watch a kicker. There is a lot to that job. Just saying kicking and punting is a lot of biomechanics in nature that sometimes even the greatest coaches in the world may defer. College and high school kids go to kicking gurus all the time. That’s all I was saying.

yes. I get that. Typically thye would go outside the program and hire their own guy. But, that doesn't mean the ST coach doesn't coach them, too. They still have various ways to kick....right...left....center....pooch...out of bounds....hang time....cover right, cover left, fakes. The ST coaches work with the punter and kicker a ton regardless of whether or not they have a private separate coach. The private coach would take on how to hold the ball, angle to drop the ball, foot work...stuff like that with a punter. The kicker would mainly be footwork and timing, as well as kicking at angles and when to drop elevation and when to get more elevation on the kicks on FGs and XP.

Yeah I agree with you. I think we are on the same page. ST coaches can make or break you. Just saying mechanics can be difficult to correct if it goes bad. Your ST coach has a ton of film work and prep that people don’t realize.Protection, can you block one, etc..

Like I said it wasn’t a knock on Cochran or any ST coach. Just it’s a specialized skill and if it goes bad for a guy not everybody can correct it.

Yeah brother was at Lassiter as an assistant for a while. Years ago. He never wanted to switch paychecks. Went to see them play a couple times. They weren’t that good back then. May not be know, but not sure. He’s retired.

Guy I use to work with is at Jefferson. Good coach. Does a nice job.

Lassiter had two good years under Chip Lindsey. They have been garbage since.

Man this was before him. We are old farts.

North Gwinnett was at a passing league at PC before I got out several years ago. Really impressed by them. Played Elbert and Lincoln County, I know that’s not near you, years ago couple times. Larry Campbell had really good teams beat me like a drum.Elbert was pretty good the two years but the Granite Bowl was fun to play at. Other than my friend at Jefferson I have no idea who is doing what in Georgia anymore. Gave it up and head to the Mountains. Play with grandkids

Kind of wish you could PM someone on here.

It always helps when two people in a conversation do not allow their feelings to be hurt because somebody disagreed with the,. We were both able to discuss this sanely and without emotion. A rarity on here.

You’re right about that. I don’t know we disagreed as much as I poorly articulated what I was trying to say.

I was thinking we were agreeing more than disagreeing...and fwiw, it could have been my stellar comprehension skills that got us off track.

We good. I don’t post much but I don’t come on here to start arguments with people I will probably never meet. Haha. Too old. But ever in town let me know. Also enjoy talking football with someone.

Tell you what I really miss Clemson/ Georgia playing every year like it use to be years ago. Two schools that close should play no mater conference
