cfbdatawarehouse felt the need to assign a "Recognized National Champion" for every season dating back to the mighty 1869 Princeton Tigers who went 1-1, splitting a two game set with Rutgers, probably the only other team who played college football at the time. I like that website a lot, but I don't agree with some of their decisions about how liberal they are with the term "National Champion", particularly as it related to any prior to the AP poll.

I don't have any "needs". This isn't an anti-bama thing. I've been very vocal that I think bama has the only legit 1964 claim. I simply think that to claim an NC a school should actually have to be named national champions by a major poll. that's it.
