As someone asked before... how many times can he get boomed in one thread?

I like the following quotes where he admits to spending an entire afternoon deliberately creating posts in order to incite members of the board and invoke a negative response, or as he describes "rubbing people the wrong way". Flaming the Board?

quote:
You guys were taken to school on how to rub someone the wrong way.
quote:
You don't have the moxy to know when someone is rubbing you raw for S&Gs and when someone is serious.
quote:
Like I told the other poster - you don't have the moxy to know when someone is rubbing you raw (which I have more than succeeded in doing) and when someone is serious.
quote:
You are beginning to bore me. But toying with you has passed the afternoon while watching some boring NFL games.

No such thing. There was no conception of an NC before the first AP poll and no player on any team thought they were playing for such a thing at any time. Any claim to the contrary not only shows a poor working knowledge of the game's history but also simply doesn't understand what a National Title is.
Draconian Sanctions, have yourself a big steaming plate of crow, with a side order of SHUTTHEfrickUP...

One newspaper article doesn't mean jack.
I've also got pictures in my Bear Bryant bio that shows the celebration after his last all white championship team that only claims Bama to have won 3.

You're right Drac! Before the polls, CFB was a lot like T-ball. Everyone played, there were no losers, and everyone went to TCBY for yogurt after the game.

oh and FWIW Bama only went to the Rose Bowl that year because Eastern Teams thought it would be too expensive to travel out west. The Tide were the 5th or 6th choice. Some NC game.

Well, it means a few things actually...
It plainly shows that there were indeed people who had a conception of a national title before the AP poll started. It also plainly shows that teams and players probably did understand the concept of playing for a national championship.
But most importantly, it shows that your "working knowledge of the game's history and understanding of what a national championship is" is pathetically overstated.

That would be '61, '64, and '65. Bryant's last all-white team was around 1970. Ergo your article is correct...we had three POLL ERA NC'S AT THAT TIME! Post-1936.
Jeez!

Link, and please ID the teams and their records that were supposedly the preferred picks over Bama.
I'll check back later to see if you've done it.

I wasn't around back then but everything I've ever read said that there was no centralized "National Championship" prior to the advent of the AP poll. Obviously there had to be some conception of it prior to that or it never would have been created, but without any kind of organized and (presumably) impartial way to determine such a champion, no claims prior to that season should be taken seriously. I stand by that.
I don't know what newspaper that's from but I have a sneaky suspicion that it was published in Alabama.

Exactly which means that not even Bama was claiming those rose bowl wins as NCs as late as the 1960's.

I can do that for him. Its true that Alabama was the fourth team invited to play against Washington that year. At that time, Southern football was sneered at and considered less worthy than Northern or Western teams. Alabama truly put Southern football on the map with this win.

No. It should be quite easy to back your prior assertion. Please link and ID the 5 or 6 teams that you claimed, including their records.

So doesn't it stand to reason that if winning the rose bowl made one "National Champion" that they would have accepted?
