Bad idea for MSU.....what will MSU gain out of it. The SEC is tough enough....why would you want to play another team that really hates you...If MSU loses then it really helps USM in recruiting........If MSU wins...big deal you are suppose to win since you are a SEC school.......

Couldn't have said it better myself. Even though we are stopping next year, there is no point in us playing Memphis.

+1 . Maybe they still shudder about those arse whippings Southern gave them in the '70's and 80's.

Not as much as the other arse whippings we got those years.

Apparently that excuse only flies when talking about USM.

Wow, have I left the all knowing Billy Mays with no argument except to quote the great Ocho?

OM has not argument except being scared to lose to USM. When they admit this the issue will go away.

I don't see any tangible benefits from the rest of the SEC having to play Ole Miss since 1963, but we've been doing it all the same.

If Ole Miss would just admit that they don't play USM because it would hurt recruiting if OM kept losing then it would be a non-issue. Ole Miss is too damn proud to do this.

Guess USM will have to drop Ole Miss from their baseball schedule since USM has nothing to gain from playing a team that can't make it to Omaha.

Odd how Ohio State can play Ohio U, Florida can play Central Florida, LSU can play Tulane or USL, Texas can play UTEP ,Oklahoma can play Tulsa ,Georgia can play Ga Southern and Southern Cal can play Fresno and all be top 10 programs.

Yet somehow neither State nor Ole Miss can play Southern Miss.

J'Ville State at home - money game

Tulane away - Fan's love going to NOLA, helps with recruiting in South LA as well.

Fresno St at home - I believe that talks with them started up when we had Orgeron as coach. He wanted to start a pipeline in that area. We return the trip in '11 I believe.

La-Laf at home- money game.

Ole Miss needs as many home money games as possible. We have one of the smallest athletic budgets in the SEC. W. Kentucky was willing to play in Oxford this season but they wanted $1 million for it. Just can't afford that kind of money.

Gee whiz. We've spent the last 6 months listening to how great OM is and one little thread about USM has them running for the hills or coming up with the most lame of excuses.

This thread is priceless.

We won't play them because they won't only play in Oxford. Why should we give up a home game to play in Hattiesburg?

But you don't care about that and will likely pretend that you didn't read it.......seeing as how I've already stated why.

Please. One of the worst teams in America. So you'll play two dog arsed teams like Jax State and USL at home where the actual attendance will be 60% full and pass on Southern Miss ?

Wouldn't playing in south Mississippi help your recruiting down there?

sounds like they're afraid they'd lose a decent amount to Southern Miss and can't take the chance with mediocre recruiting and fragile fanbase. In that case,it does make some sense.

Let me say this one more time.....and please read closely. USM refuses to just play us in Oxford. A crap team playing us in Oxford where attendance is 45000x2 years is better than having one 60000 game at home and an away game at Southern.

It's not like we are just 100% refusing to play USM. They want a 1-1 series and that means giving up a home game every other year. I will take 2 60% attendance game over one 90 % attendance game and an away game.

We also have Texas on the schedule in 12(home) and 13(away).

Okay. I stand 100% corrected if Southern Miss is insisting on absolute home and home.

If Ole Miss has offered to play in Oxford periodically or 3 for 2, 2 for 1,3 for 1 and Southern has refused,I humbly apologize.

Would take Tulane over USM any day. Tulane would cost us less on the home trip and the Superdome holds a hell of a lot more than The Pebble in Hattiesburg.

Playing in Hattiesburg would help a "little", but playing in NOLA would help a hell of a lot more.
