Rick Barnes says he didn’t take TO during 18-0 run because it wouldn’t have helped

“Believe me, I would’ve taken one if it would’ve helped. But we can’t execute out of timeouts either. You saw it, these guys aren’t doing what we tell them to do even when I call timeout. They’re going to have to develop toughness at some point . They have to learn to play when things get tough like this or they’re never going to understand what it takes. I can call timeout and bail them out but they aren’t going to learn anything from that and from what we’ve seen they may not even be composed enough to execute then. It’s the same thing we had to learn when Grant, Bone, Lamonte, Admiral and those guys were underclassmen. These guys don’t understand what it takes at this level.”

$5 million per year, folks.

No one to blame but himself for putting this roster together.

Not sure what exactly he expected when he has been signing strictly projects for 3 years.

Except for Pearl, he is the best coach we have had at Tennessee in my lifetime. Everybody knew this year would be a struggle.

Not my money but the heat should be ON next year. Better be very fricking good or it will get ugly for him.

Not exactly a high bar assuming you were born post-Mears.

He has been less successful than even Jerry Green.

Though I’m not arguing he’s a worse coach.

Why would we want to? Some of you guys act like we are Duke or UNC.

You think Steve Forbes would ever allow a roster to fall in to this kind of disrepair in year 5? Absolutely not.

Barnes is not exactly winning at unprecedented levels. He will be 2 for 5 in even getting to the tournament in a couple months.

Jerry Green took advantage of Kevin O'Neils recruiting and wasted it. I don't blame Barnes for the early recruiting because we were still bad. Plus, we should be really good next year.

Time outs are overrated when trying to stop a run. And in some case ignites the other team, especially if it is the home team. A basket does more than anything to stop the momentum and the crowd.

Rick Barnes had all the resources of the University of Texas behind him and was unable to put anything together. It’s mind blowing that anyone in the SEC would pay him big money.

Nobody expected Tennessee in the tourney the first two years. Can't really blame him for that. Plus, after all we lost this year it was gonna be difficult anyway. I have seen a lot of awful Tennessee basketball and this is far from the worst.

We have been pretty good the last couple of year. Missouri hasn't.
