That 2019 LSU’s rep (with LSU fans) doesn’t match its reality. They always tout “Most wins over top 10 teams in history” when they only beat 4 teams that finished in the top 10. Alabama beat 5 in 2020 in 2 less games.

Well, UGA won't got undefeated, but I do find it wild that you are comparing before the first snap even happens.

what is wild about it, exactly? The OP went out of his way to mention multiple times that he doesn't predict this will happen, it's simply a hypothetical "what if" scenario. Considering it's july and the doldrums of the sports calendar I'm not sure what's so crazy about it

Anyone can do what if's about the future, and any team can do what is being asked.
Most people just aren't stupid enough to make such a thread.

why exactly is the thread stupid?

Because the season hasn't been played.

A proper thread would have been asking what any team needed to accomplish to be considered the GOAT. Which is basically what the thread ended up being, because it's the only discussion that's even possible.

no shite. By your logic there should be zero threads from january - August

and the obvious answer would be "win 15-17 games and go undefeated against a really tough schedule"...which is exactly what OP proposed.

Like ok yeah guys like vince wilfolk, DJ williams, jonathan vilma, etc were on that team and didi great in the NFL...but they DIDN'T EVEN PLAY in 2001.
That only shows how strong their roster was.

Yeah, because this topic makes no sense, no other topics make sense.

So any team that goes undefeated will by default be considered the GOAT.
Which highlights your method is shite.

Seems more to me like it's highlighting the fact your argument has nothing to do with what the team actually accomplished in college football.

well, any team that goes 16/17 - 0 with an SEC schedule plus playoff wins...yeah I'd say they would be in the disucssion. Which is exactly what OP asked...is would that be enough. It's a discussion thread. That's the point..to debate it.

what is my method? This isn't my thread and in fact my very first post in the thread was saying we have no way of knowing the answer until we see the games played.

Yes unless you make up some fake stat:
VORP BURP SLURP WHIP WHAM
and prove why Bama was the GOAT
Or you could consider roster strength by way of accolades and future achievements along with an undefeated season and then you find the GOAT ever assembled.

They won it all did they not
Was the 1992 NBA squad only the goat team because of their SOS?

3down,
2020 Bama led by white fat DUI guy Mac Jones doesnt have a prayer against 2019 LSU and everyone knows that.
Not even under covid conditions.
STFU already

If Georgia goes undefeated and wins the championship, its a no brainier that they are the best team ever. 16-0 hasn't been done before.
actually no its NOT a no brainer...
LSU defeated 7 top 10 teams enroute to a 15-0 finish, not counting the offensive numbers they put up...unless Georgia defeats the same amount or greater number of top 10 teams in going 16-0...no they would not be the greatest team of all time...

Yeah, tell us all about that 8-5 "Top 10" Texas team you only beat by 7 points.

Someone wins a national championship every year.
They didn't play a single top5 team and only 1 top 10 team. And still they only won their conference championship by 2 points.
If they were so good, why didn't they dominate the teams they played? It's a team sport and your argument is based on individual accolades in the NFL.

LSU defeated 4 (or 5, depending on poll) top 10 teams. Rankings at game time are utterly irrelevant.
It is not remotely far fetched to think a 16-0 UGA (if that were to happen) would easily eclipse that considering there are 3 playoff wins presumably over teams that would finish ranked in the top 10, plus an SEC championship opponent plus texas/bama/ole miss/clemson in the regular season that could all potentailly end up there as well.
