Neither team wanted a running QB at the time. When White came out Auburn was running the west coast offense under Borges, and Bama was running a pro style offense under Shula as well.

FWIW, he grew up a huge Auburn fan, wanted to go there, but we had a kid out of Mississippi named Jason Campbell.

You sure about that? I thought Rivers started school in 2000 and Campbell in 2001 or 2002.

JC played his senior season in 2004. I don't remember if he was redshirted or not, but I think he was, which would mean he was a true freshman during the 2000 season.

I can see how Farve's recruiting was overlooked in the 80's being from south MS when State and Ole Miss are both in the more northern part of the state. Hell, he grew up closer to LSU than State or Ole Miss. McNair was paid well to go to Alcorn. I'll never forget getting his autograph at a gas station in Lorman, MS when he was in college. He was filling up his brand new corvette. I was too young at the time to realize why he had that car but my dad explained it to me on the way home.

Just hearsay but I've heard that one of the Hannah's tried to turn Dubose onto P.Rivers but to no avail.
Did't his dad get a Coaching job in NC right after he signed.

Jason Campbell was worse than Marcus Randall until 2004.

Steve Rivers took a head job in North Carolina when Phillip went there.
