Pruitt was hired to replace Butch Jones. Pruitt first act as HC was to pull Penix jr offer 2 weeks to signing day. Penix still stayed committed to UT, even after Butch was fired. He didn’t care who the coach was, he just wanted to play for UT. But Pruitt had other plans for UT, and winning wasn’t one of them. This would have been one player he wouldn’t have had to cheat to get, but instead ran him off.
Then two weeks before the early signing period, just ahead of Penix's official visit, he got a call from new head coach Jeremy Pruitt's staff. The Vols wanted to go another direction at quarterback. They pulled his offer.
Would have been nice to see Penix instead of Milton this year in Heups offense. Pruitt really thought JT. Shrout was better than Penix.
