George, pull out the advanced stats homeboy and let us all see how the teams are ranked. Where Alabama fits in relation to Texas and then we can all discuss the "eye test".

... and Michigan, FSU, Washington. Eye test isn't the only criteria.

In all seriousness, has there been any updates to the simulated BCS standings after Saturday?

I'd just be curious to see where the computers rank these teams.

Not that it really matters, but maybe it would highlight a metric or two that's not being considered by the committee.

Texas beat us head to head. Yes we are a better team. But they did beat us. Would love to have e a opportunity to play again. That's what's great about CF. Now next tr will be great for fans.

I disagree; if you go by what the committee espouses, it is about the best 4 teams at season's end. There is an argument that if Team A beats Team B early in the season, both finish with similar records, but Team A substantially declines in competivess or something significant occurs (FSU QB injury and unk performance moving forward, for example) while Team B is markedly improved, Team B should be considered ahead of Team A.

Psu winning the BIG and passing UM in final polls after UM trounced PSU is a good example. The conference title overcame the head to head loss. Obviously, in this scenario, both Bama and UTx are conference champs, so unless something substantial happens, UTx is in.

Our best bet is for FSU to lose and for Washington to lose this weekend or to Oregon. Our chances at winning a 12-1 debate vs Oregon are much better than Texas.

well, its not black and white. We're assuming here that Texas and Alabama win Saturday, no issues,no injuries,etc..

Let's say Texas beats Okie State 41-38 in overtime. Let's say Alabama defeats #1 Georgia 38-21.

Head to head counts and should count. But if we are REALLY going after the FOUR best teams would you testify in court that Texas was better than Alabama?

why do people keep saying this? It's never been about 4 best teams. Ever.

I will say - I find it very hard to believe that a 12-1 Alabama team that beats Georgia (on a 27 game win streak) in the SECCG is going to get left out. It's just hard to believe that would happen.

But, everything has lined up in a way that seems to make that a possibility. It's just hard to fathom.

Your ranking teams based on how they are on December 3rd not in September.

well, because of the loss to Texas I think it'd have to be 10 or more points.

It'd be much more frustrating to me to see Florida State, with basically 2 ranked games all year, or even Michigan, with a home game vs Ohio State and absolutely nothing else, there than Texas.

lol

so 75% of your games played are irrelevant? We should just ignore the majority of your overall body of work and only look at the last 3 weeks?

Your resume is your resume. Good, bad, whatever. Injuries or healthy. Wins and losses. Blowouts and nailbiters. It all counts the exact same and it's literally why we play the games. Something tells me that if the outcome of that game was reversed and bama had a loss to like ole miss instead, yall woudl be propped up that big win over texas as a reason you should make the playoffs.

The published CFP protocols literally say that it is about the 4 best teams. They may not follow their protocols but that is literally what it says.

Yea I don't understand why people say things like "4 best teams". That isn't how they do it. It's the 4 teams with the best resumes. Almost always has been. If somebody slipped up and said "best teams" at some point, they were wrong.

Well I staunchly disagree because their deeds have literally backed that up 100%. I mean hell look at less than 12 months ago with your team...TCU made it over bama because the resumes/body of work are paramount. Bama was a better team and would likely have whooped them, your coach even pleaded about "would vegas favor anyone to beat us?" but that was irrelevant.

In past years, the rule was ... If you have to lose, do it early in the season.

The funny thing is ...

It wasn't even Texas which dropped the Tide. Bama fell to 8 and may not have fallen more ... until that little social experiment occurred at Central Florida.. which was somewhat self-inflicted.

They won but continued to fall, outside the top-10.
