The FSU/Clemson settlement changes this.

UNC brings in $67.2m in football revenue. NC State brings in $77m. UNC bring in $31.2m in basketball revenue, while NC State brings in $19.5m.

UNC total big two revenue is $98.4 to NC State’s $96.5m.

Among the SEC, only Vandy has a smaller stadium than these schools.

But, NC State is more passionate about football (which has more upside potential) and football will never supplant basketball at UNC

I get the logic here, but you don't turn down a huge and rapidly growing state's flagship university for its little brother, especially when it is royalty in a Big 2 revenue sport and the other isn't great at anything. I would want NC State if UNC went to the B10, but if we have a choice we take UNC all day long.

UNC would invest heavily in football if they join the SEC. They are too good of a university to accept being a doormat in anything. And their huge fanbase would watch their basketball games and SEC basketball games in general the same way we all watch SEC football games that don't involve our schools.

A top basketball product is going to be very valuable in future TV deals as networks crave more live sports that can attract big audiences.

Maybe we should just expand to 20 teams and let the original 10 all play each other and put the newbies in the other division:

The OG Division:
Alabama
Auburn
Florida
Georgia
Kentucky
LSU
Ole Miss
Miss St
Tennessee
Vanderbilt

The NewBloods Division:
Arkansas
Clemson
Florida State
Missouri
Oklahoma
North Carolina
South Carolina
Texas
Texas A&M
Virginia Tech

The only problem with this is fans want to see the new blood play the old blood more than once every 6 years.

Some variation of The Roommate Switch with divisional play would do it.

Being from Texas, I would never have guessed this. UNC has much more brand recognition nationally. Hell I can't even name NC State's mascot right now.

It’s funny looking back now how adamant Jim Delaney was that a merger of a few Big12 programs with the Pac12 not happen. After the Big12 was picked apart and he got Nebraska he was worried the Pac12 would pick up 4 major programs and be a new problem to deal with.

Everything that happened in that round was set up to ultimately kill the pac12.

Hilarious how you Whorns treated Aggie like they were your property only for them to tell you "frick off" and join the SEC. Even more hilarious was watching you and the XII rot on the vine to point of swallowing your pride to crawl to the SEC behind them.

Grab UNC, Duke, and Kansas and own college basketball.

Why does NC think the SEC wants them? I’ve got a feeling their acceptance is far from certain. They aren’t really good at football and they still have that 18 years of academic fraud stain all over them.

It’s pretty easy to win in the ACC. Almost any SEC program would win consistently there
