Joey Jay, the first player to ever advance from Little League baseball to the Major leagues, passed away September 27, 2024, at the age of 89 in Lutz, Florida. His death was just announced this week, however.
Joey Jay was a pitcher who was best known playing for the Milwaukee/Atlanta Braves (1953-1955, 1957-1960, 1966) and the Cincinnati Reds (1961-1966). In 1966, he was traded from Cincinnati to Atlanta where he ended his career. He was inducted into the Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame.
