I'd say it was as good. I don't think the "story" is as good, which is probably why they made LOTR first. But as far as acting, special effects, scenery, etc. it's just as good if not better.

Gyp ends up being a fantastic villain for the season. You'll love it by the finale.

Boyfriend went to watch that tonight. Still apparently watching it. Long arse movie.
Not my type though. Glad he got his friend to watch it with him. I couldn't suffer through it.

Well, the story is probably going to be a bit less when we're talking about a 300 page book versus a roughly 1400 page trilogy.

You should see return of the king CF, probably the best one.
And yes caftan, it was long. 3 hours, my but was numb and I was ready to stretch when it was done. They need intermissions in films that long.
