Bill Synder did pretty good at Kansas State despite the lack of elite talent.

1995 10-2 players drafted: 1
1997 11-1 players drafted: 1
1998 11-2 players drafted: 6
1999 11-1 players drafted: 5
2000 11-3 players drafted: 6
2002 11-2 players drafted: 3
2003 11-4 players drafted: 2
2011 10-3 players drafted: 1
2012 11-2 players drafted: 3

Nick won on stockpiling NFL talent, not pure chess-moves coaching. When he couldn't have a team of 5 stars, he wasn't going to be as successful. Saban was a great recruiter and organizer but he would have never been successful with less talent.

Well that’s an opinion (as gas as not being a great game coach) that we’ll never know the truth of. Of course the favorable calls on the field are also at least a footnote.
Otherwise, it’s hard to diminish.
