Mascara alert should have been provided. This was great read. It's all about being 'real' and New Orleans is real baby!

it's really a great story. i've never been to new orleans and i wished i had a chance to go before the storm. i plan on going one of these days whatever happens to the city.

Nothing will happen to the city. It's older than the freaking country so it will be fine.

Come, spend your money.

You nearly brought me to tears. I'm a native New Orleanian displaced by Katrina & lived in exile in Kansas City before moving to Baton Rouge this year.
Katrina has changed my life in ways I cannot even comprehend. And the physical, emotional & mental trauma is with me to this day & probably til I die.
Thank you for your kind words.

That was awesome. I have been to NO twice, both times before Katrina. I, too, watched the aftermath of the hurricane and cried. I want to go back and really see everything besides the Quarter because culture and history is everywhere. A lot of people talk about how dirty and smelly it is...well, we all have places like there from where we are from. I live in north AL but work in Birmingham and trust me, it's not the cleanest city in the world.
Everyone in NO was in my prayers when Katrina hit and I would love to come back.
